1989 force 85hp loss of power

The backfire or cough is from an air leak somewhere?? Possibly at the port cover gasket? If it starts, do the starting fluid test. Can of SF sprayed around the intake side of the motor. The area under the coils/packs is part of the intake, so is the base of the motor under the carbs. If...

    Points Conversion to CDI

They started using Prestolite Ignition system in 1987/88 Look around and find a junker and use the system off that motor. If my memory's right? you'll need to drill/tap the trigger base(maybe) or you might be able to use the parts from the other motor.

    Part identification

Not sure of the name?? It's part of the ignition system. If you change the stator the new system will take that part out. Sorry I can't give more info.

Need advise on bringing a 92 beretta succsess 200 back to life.

To rebuild the upper gear case you will need special tools. You might be ok to just replace the bearing, You'll need to get the factory service manual to be sure.

55 hp Chrysler. Model 5551 has 3 piston rings

Look on the block for a foundry stamp. Under the power pack , maybe the coils or on the bottom of the intake manifold? there might be a foundry stamp. Usually a circle with a smaller circle that has a number in it. That number is the year the foundry produced the block.

Sport Craft 232 and Outdrive Trim Problem

If you run green to ground and blue to positive and swap them around, you should get some reaction from the electric motor. If not??? then I'd guess the motors bad???

    Force 70Hp 1991 gear problem

Did you remove the screw on the side of the nose cone? There's a drain plug and then the gear shift arm pin. If you removed the pin??? then the lower probably needs to broken down and the shift assy. reassembled on the prop shaft. . Just changing the impeller shouldn't change the shift?? You...

Top piston worth replacing? (120hp low compression)

From the new pics??? I'd find a machine shop that can do the bore/hone job. Then pull it apart. IF??? there's ANY damage to the piston skirts I'd change the piston. Post piston pics after cleaning/removal. If it really is a fresh water motor?? it should come apart fairly easy. I just rebuilt the...

Top piston worth replacing? (120hp low compression)

IF??? you didn't destroy the gasket???? I'd try sealing with silicone and doing another comp test. Sounds like the gasket might have been the problem??? You can also pull the port covers and check the sides of the pistons for damage. The pistons can be replaced singly without breaking the...

    Tilt Cylinders Leaking

Post #68 he said it stopped leaking and still drifted down. That means the shuttle valve in the bottom of the pump needs new seals.

    1989 force 85hp. model a? b? l?

The difference on a model change can be as small as a screw or a tie/down. Very few big changes in the models?? If you get a service manual for 88/98/90 you should be close. The big changes were in the lower units.
