    You need to pull the cover off as the Bendix is under it. The gear spinning freely is normal. The Bendix is attached to that gear also check the Bushing the gear shaft rdes in.

    The exhaust tuner will be round if it has the newer style. Old style is square

    If the head comes off of that motor you can try this. Mix ATF and acetone together in a 50/50 mix and fill the cylinder. Let it sit a week pull the head off and find a Hydraulic press and take your chances.

    You have a single cylinder tilt and trim unit. thats what those motors came with.

    X is probably a 25" shaft L is probably a 20" shaft. Only difference between the Johnson and Suzuki are the paint and decals applied to them.

    Are the calibration pockets clean? Are the needles set right? Have you tried pumping the primer ball? is the optical eye in good shape?

    Suzuki built 4 strk around an 2004 model is my best guess. hood stripes look correct for that.

    That is absolutely the motor somebody not mechanically inclined should buy. Simple motor and parts are cheap.
