Shift interrupter operation and adjustment after restoration

There is no magic in the TBIV. I'm assuming you're trying to see it work while on the muffs? The shift interrupt switch won't do it's thing unless the prop is under load (aka, in the water) and you are coming out of gear and into neutral.

How would you do this transom?

I'd separate the halves (pull the cap) and replace the transom from the inside. Aluminum plate is a band-aid. Take whatever number you've figured for cost (you've thrown out a number of $2K) and multiply it somewhere between 2x and 4x and that's probably realistically what it will take. My...

    Bayliner Capri 2150 resurrection.

Nice progress - ambitious timeline! Next time (if there is a next time), lay glass on the faces of stringers & bulkheads on the workbench (aka, on the flat) - it's much easier than trying to glass vertical surfaces. If you do that, then all you've got to do is bed & tab once they are in the boat.

    Gloves for Acetone Washing?

THESE are hands down the best disposable gloves I have used. The are about 2x the cost of nitrile gloves but they last 5x longer. I was able to do several hours of laying glass and handling acetone in one single pair of these gloves. This makes them cost effective in the long-run when you...

I would do 2 layers minimum. The gelcoat really starts to fill in the CSM pattern and leave a decent surface. I just used 4" mohair rollers for everything (resin and gelcoat)

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Haha, I asked her repeatedly if she was fine and she kept saying yes and refused to switch seats with my wife. Glad to know I'm not the only one to drag the skeg!

Soft spot on boat floor that I may buy?

Nope. That would just be a band-aid of the worst kind. It will require replacement, and if the floor is rotten, you've got a high chance of finding rotten structure under the floor and a rotten transom.

Are you trying to fair it all in to where you can't see it? Tear (don't cut) some CSM so that you have a "hairy" edge, then while your tabbing is still wet, lay the CSM over the edges of the tabbing by about 2-3 inches (hairy edge of CSM up/on the hull) and wet it out. This will give you a...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Today we had our first day on the water this year. We took the boat up-river 25 miles and then back (50 mile round trip). It did great. Wife did good backing the trailer up, and I didn't forget to put the plug in! Full disclosure...I did forget to trim up as she pulled the boat up the ramp...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks man! I've really grown to love this boat. I wish I could say I sought out an XLT-185, but I was just looking for something cheap to get me on the water and my brother found it on CraigsList and said I should get it, so I did. I feel lucky to have ended up with such a cool boat, when I...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Took the boat and wife to the ramp today and spent about an hour letting her practice backing up a trailer. She did great, but we confused a lot of fishermen by backing the boat all the way to the edge of the water and then pulling out and going around for another shot. 😂

Snow in May? Brutal! Hopefully 3-4 more weeks and you'll be able to fire it up!

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

There's always the slight chance of a cold snap again by the end of April, but I couldn't resist. I'll re-winterize if I've got to, but I think we're good. Hoping to practice at the boat ramp a few times on weekdays in the coming weeks.
