1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Officially splashed! Whew, it was a busy few days to get everything ready, but we made it. Today it was mid-50's air temp and we launched on the Tennessee River and rode around for about 90 minutes, letting various people drive and ride. We got it up to about 50 mph at around 4,000 rpm - the...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Other than a final sanding, the keel is repaired. We did not try to color match the gelcoat because I am just going to put a keel guard on before next season. I'm still hopeful for a splash tomorrow afternoon. Here's some progress shots of the keel repair:

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Made some good progress yesterday. Got most of the work done to repair the gouge on the keel. May need one more round of gelcoat today. Here's the before picture. Cut down the seat bases to get the seats lower so we catch fewer bugs in our teeth. We installed the drive. And we...

Sea Ray 180 sig series termite/water in ski locker rot

You're on the right path being on this site and watching Frisco Boater's videos. Go ahead and assume the transom is rotten too. Get the engine pulled and spend a few days with a tape measure, pencil, and paper, and make lots of sketches with measurements. Do this before getting too wild with the...

Alpha One Gen 1 transom repair kit - where do all the o-rings go?

OK, I see where the big rubber ring goes. So I just put it into the bore of the bellowing as deep (closest to the bow of the boat) as it will go? Use bellows adhesive? And then do I need to grease the inside of the rubber ring so the drive installs easier, or no?

Alpha One Gen 1 transom repair kit - where do all the o-rings go?

Appreciate it! No groove in the middle of the input shaft. Where does the large rubber ring get glued into the gimbal housing - got a pic or video to help show it? I honestly don't remember pulling the old one out when I disassembled the gimbal housing earlier this year.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Got lots of things done today including installing the windshield. I'm still not happy with how the paint came out, but I'm going to deal with it for a season. I'm thinking I'll remove the windshield next winter, pull the glass, and have the frames powder coated. Some of the small things I...

Alpha One Gen 1 transom repair kit - where do all the o-rings go?

Drive serial number 0B612075 Transom assembly serial number 0B667146 I've got an Alpha One Gen 1 on the boat I'm almost done restoring - hoping to splash this coming weekend. I pulled it apart a little over a year ago, rebuilt the transom assembly (using the Mercruiser kit PN 30-803097T) about...

1996 Century Boats 1800 Center Console Refit and Modernization

If I end up hating my carpet, I think I may pull it up and do an EVA foam floor one winter. What's replacing EVA like? I'm assuming it comes up in tiny shreds and you end up having to sand most of it and the adhesive off...

    1977 Glastron 175hp 175hpv “Free Boat” project

Take a few weeks off from stressing over what to do with the boat and watch all of Frisco Boater's videos on his SeaRay restoration, then watch JMink's videos on his Glastron restoration, then watch a bunch of Boatworks Today's videos. Then decide if hull restoration is something you want to do...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Are you talking about using an etch primer, or something like Alumiprep 33 (or both) prior to paint?

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks for sharing. I honestly think I'm going to paint it still, but we'll see once I get the other frames stripped!

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Nope, but I didn't take it down to bare metal originally either...just scuffed up the paint that was already there, so I don't think lack of etch would cause the paint to not cure...maybe not adhere, but it should have still cured.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Well, it was either bad prep or bad paint because it was still wet in spots after 10 hours. I'm going to blame the paint. So I stripped the paint off. Now I'm curious how it will look with a raw aluminum frame on the boat, so I'm going to strip all the frames and set it on there to see. I...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

The paint was all scratched up on the windshield frames, so I'm sanding and repainting. Hoping to reinstall the windshield next week sometime.
