1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Well I appreciate the compliment. And I know what you mean - I lost my dad a few years ago too. I wish he could see this thing!

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Do they have boat shows for boats not in the water? 😂

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I set the rest of the upholstery in the boat for a dry fit and a picture - it looks great, but there's still some tweaks I'm going to have to get the upholstery shop to make. They had to build a bunch of this stuff from scratch due to missing pieces, and they didn't have the hull at their shop...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Today I got both battery boxes mounted with the tie down straps. I installed the starboard side panel and shifter and got the shifter wired up. I also installed the rails on the bottom of the captains chairs and set them in the boat to figure out where I want to glass the mahogany bases down at.

Contura V switches - they are DPDT with independent backlighting, hence all the extra pins.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Got most of the under-dash wiring knocked out. I may have to redo the wiring for the three 10-pin switches because the connectors are REALLY close to each other (maybe touching? ...we'll find out) when using piggyback connectors. I've still got to run the wiring for courtesy lights, USB...

    Question On Changing Stringer Location

Oh yeah, I routered all the edges so the cloth would lay down smooth. Even with a 3/8" radius router bit on both sides of a 3/4" sheet of plywood, I had to work to get the 1708 to lay down completely.

    Question On Changing Stringer Location

PB between the top of the stringer and bottom of the decking. I had one really bad spot on one of the stringers that form the bilge, so I filled it with PB before I wrapped glass around the top to fully encapsulate the stringer.

    Question On Changing Stringer Location

Be aware that fiberglass annihilates jigsaw blades. Have several spare blades on-hand. I tried your method of cutting stringer height after bedding them and found it much more difficult than getting them right before putting them in. I ended up with some wavy spots across the top when looking...

    Transom replacement on I/O

Nobody wants to drill because they know what they will find. 😂 I only laugh because I've been there too.

    Water when pulling stern drive

Thanks Rick. I've got an Alpha One Gen 1, and I do have the manual. I'll look into it.

    Transom replacement on I/O

If your stringers and transom are rotten and you pull them out, a cradle will reduce the chances of your boat flexing out of shape without the structural pieces (floor, stringers, transom) in place.

    Water when pulling stern drive

Got a pic of where the big o-ring goes?

    PVC board as stringers??

It's not hard spots you're watching out for. It's hard (supported) spots beside soft (unsupported) spots that are bad and will cause a stress riser. Raising the stringers up just gives you enough gap to completely fill the area under the stringer with bedding and leave no voids.

    Transom replacement on I/O

Can't really tell what's going on in the picture, but if any of the transom is rotten, you should replace the whole thing.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Got the battery switch panel installed and all the large gauge wiring ran today.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

A little more progress on the battery switch / fuse panel. I shifted some things around from the original layout, and have added a switch to the ACR ground wire so that it won't be a phantom load that drains the battery when in storage. I made some standoffs from 1" HDPE bar stock to hold...
