1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I gave it an honest look last night and I just don't think I'll be ready by 12/1. I'm going to try to splash 12/5 if the weather behaves and I can get the last few things done needed before putting it in the water for the first time. There will still be work to do after splashing before it's...

Bad 1970 Mercruiser Engine, Please tell me there is still hope.

You can do it. Take a few weeks and watch all of the Frisco Boater videos on YouTube for the Sea Ray restoration he did, and if you want more, watch some of the Boatworks Today videos and JMink's videos on his Glastron restoration as well. I've always been mechanically inclined but fiberglass...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Fired the engine today for the first time since putting the boat back together (over a year). I did not have the drive installed, so no cooling water, but I only ran it for about 15 seconds. Good oil pressure, but it doesn't want to idle unless the throttle is cracked, and the starter isn't...

Looks like Dap does make it in an aerosol can: https://www.dap.com/products-projects/product-categories/adhesives/contact-cement/weldwood-high-streng/

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks zool, I'm sure we'll scuff up the white vinyl really quick, lol. I used DAP spray grade Weldwood (aka landau top & trim contact adhesive). I spray it out of an HVLP gun with a 1.8mm tip. I use 3M PPS, so cleanup is really simple on the gun.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

More progress today - I got the last of the carpet installed which meant I was able to also install the captain's chair bases, glove box, and ski locker trim ring. Back of the carpet after rough cutting to shape. I used a silver sharpie to transfer the template from the plastic to the carpet...

    Gimbal Bearing Compatibility and Source?

Stick the new gimbal bearing in the freezer for an hour or two. Then be quick about putting it in so it doesn't warm up. You should still use the correct driver tool, but it should go in much easier than when it's at room temperature.

Loading on U Shaped Engine Mounts?

You could do solid mounts out of a rot-resistant wood like mahogany, then encapsulate the mounts in fiberglass separate from the stringer system, that way if they do get wet, the water won't get into the stringers. That's what I did.

    Filter screen above bilge well?

I'm using Perko 0361005CHR in my boat.

2021 Splash of the Year Nominations

I know, I know...I said I'd have mine done this year, but I underestimated time and money, let the scope creep beyond my initial plans, my truck blew up and needed attention, and I'm a slacker. 😂

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I was getting ready to haul the carpet roll up into the boat yesterday when I thought "Wait a minute. This is going to be a pain / impossible. I need something easier to maneuver." It was hard to get the plastic to stay still on one side of the boat while marking/cutting on the other side, so...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks! If we were neighbors...maybe, haha. I used a 3" wool pad chucked up in my drill with some AquaBuff 2000....very little effort to get them to shine up. I spent a little more time this afternoon on the boat. I knocked down the high spots after the glass cured: And I made a rough...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Got the captains chair bases where I wanted them today so I marked the spot on the floor and glassed in my mahogany bases that will take the screws. Hairy PB underneath the bases, one layer of 1708 tabbing, then 1 layer of CSM over the whole thing. I also polished the captains chair pedestal...

    Glastron HPV 165 restoration

Wait...you're already past the denial phase? Well you're ahead of the game then. Agree with @zool - being on a bunk trailer means minimal bracing is needed. I didn't use any bracing on my restoration, however I did use ratchet straps to get the shape just right while glassing in stringers...

I only had one short to chase down and after fixing it, all the electronics that run on the house battery are working. Here you can see all the backlit rocker switches on the dash lit up.

New gimbal bearing, can’t get alignment tool in coupler

I pulled mine with a plate style puller. It took some force to get it moving. I don't think the slide hammer would have done it. Try the plate style puller before you start drilling.
