2011 4.3 Alpha MerCruiser winterizing question

Open that valve with the vent plug out the thermostat first. Wait until it drains…then prove it’s drained by unclipping the quick connect fittings at the source of each hose feeding into it. As in each side of the block and manifolds. I do this by pouring some antifreeze in, watching for its...

In gear switch or lanyard maybe ?

Volvo Penta 5.7L in Glastron GX-235 overheating in an odd way

Could be the hose kinked…but I’d also suggest not to rule the impeller out so easy. A perished impeller may just be able to draw water from a fully submerged intake on the drive, sitting deep in the water…or at an angle allowing a fuller flow when underway…but ain’t quite man enough to pull...

Volvo penta 260A no spark on 1986 bayliner

Hi. There is a ballast resistor type thing (can’t mind its exact name). They can fail and cause issue. It’s near the coil from memory on back starboard side maybe. Ignition sensor should be looked at too Perhaps

    Need propeller suggestions

Less pitch. Seems steep if that’s suggested a 21” on it now. Age dependent, I know of 115 models with the same or similar ratios…that won’t turn a 21” well.

    Mercury VesselView Mobile module

Hi. Yeah. Think I can. So you won’t get anything more than the basic screen without it running. All becomes active when she’s running. Very briefly and basically, the main screen shows three sections. Speed, rpm and fuel. Should you click on each one of those readings, it will go to a more...

VP 5.0GXI-GF Needs Idle Air Control?

Can believe it for sure….can just happen out the blue for sure. Especially after being in some choppy water…also famous for doing it, is a heavy dose of fuel treatment too. That can break up and release chunks of crappy stuff that’s been sitting in there on the tank walls or bottom…that’s been...

    Voltage regulator vacum hose

Hi. Might have replied to this earlier. Not sure you got it or not. Is it not the vent system arrangement that some of them have back then ? They have a hose going off them. Open ended through the bottom of the cowl or most commonly Perhaps to a fitting piece out the bottom of the cowl.

VP 5.0GXI-GF Needs Idle Air Control?

Good stuff. If you want to make sure you’ve sorted her out and without worry of repetition…you’ll likely best sucking out the contents of the tank, ideally.
  10. Q

    Fuel regulator

Not entirely sure about your particular model specifically…but I know that some models perhaps around this era of mercury…there is a vent device type arrangement on top of (or close by) the fuel module/pump assembly. This has an open ended pipe coming from it that then usually or likely heads...

    Rattle when in gear

Not long ago…I witnessed the quick version of this solution in action. Turns out that a good quality stainless steel prop, makes a fine and surprisingly precise job of finely machining and adjusting the anode to suit !!! Just the one loud clatter is all it took…haha !

VP 5.0GXI-GF Needs Idle Air Control?

That sounds very very much like the typical result or behaviour, caused by a fuel restriction. Your pick up and/or filer is likely getting blocked. Perhaps the non return valve too or alternatively. What happens is just as you’ve described. When there is very low demand and suction for fuel, at...

    Rattle when in gear

Agree…wasn’t sure if it might be one of the 3.0 with no power steering. Usually the only reason an alpha might have such an anode perhaps, rather than the flush fit anode, found on the larger power steering equipped arrangements. All the best

    1973 Glastron V-156 Sportster

You’ll struggle for such a thing as a wiring diagram for most boats like that. But it’s very very basic usually and easily traced out and determined. As for the engine, what I'd do personally, is the following to start with If she’s not been used for ages or of unknown health, take the plugs...

    Are plastic props junk?

Yeah. No doubt. But I was specifically referring to the idea of messing with the prop on this particular engine. That’s the reason he wanted to measure the rpm, I assumed. All the best

    Mariner 9 HP compression issues

I think if it actually was that low…a quick look down the plug holes with a torch would tell a story of things. Really doubt it actually is though.

    Are plastic props junk?

Those wee tachometer are pretty good…as long as you can make sense of the settings menu…to dial in the correct setting for the engine you have…in terms of how many cylinders she has and also the ignition cycle too. But to be honest…probably not something that should be bothered with too...

    Rattle when in gear

In addition to my post about it contacting the prop (clearly is)…the fella with the post above there..might have a point too. Could have the wrong or wrong way about washer there. But also should be known that some props available for the alpha one, require the slightly cut down size of trim...
  19. Q

    Rattle when in gear

It’s definitely the trim anode fin getting contacted by the prop. Can actually see the contact marks on each blade of that new prop. The paints off it where it’s been hitting it
  20. Q

    Rattle when in gear

Spin that prop by hand and see if it’s hitting that trim anode fin behind it. Sure sounds like it. I’d also take the prop off and check the hub kit it has. Make sure it’s ok. Make sure it’s the right prop too and the thrust washer is present. Otherwise ir will be perhaps contacting your...
