    Volvo 2009 8.1GXI Hard Start

100% it’s a result of a compromised supply along the way. Be sure then double sure about your batteries there for certain. Especially with the mention of more than one battery. One less than good battery will compromise, level and weaken the other quickly. I won’t go over my old war cry again...

    Another prop slipping thread

That’s some power from a stroker kit. What else have you done to it ? Weirdly low rpm number you’ve said there, for making its peak power. Normally it’s making its best power upwards of 4500 rpm or so, I always assumed. Love to hear more about the build. That low in the rpm for making power is...

    Advice please

Yup. Definitely your bendix isn’t throwing up. Either solenoid sticking or a compromised and lack of juice to the starter causes this. Now the starter is off…test it with jumper leads across it on the workbench. If she’s not coming up..take it apart and have a look in there. Likely full of...

1997 Mercury Optimax won't get on plane or stay running after first run.

    How’s her compressor for health ? How’s the FSM/VST unit ?

Mercury 6horse 4 stroke starting problem.

That’s the oil light. Make sure the oil isn’t diluted with fuel (as they tend to do) and very thin or even overfilled, quite commonly. These have a nasty habit of exchanging their fuel and oil via the carb…when sat on their side stored for anytime. Even when on the correct side !! I think you...

    Mercury 2.2 HP bad coil

I think you could likely retrofit something, somehow, if you’re stuck…have a look and compare the coils from the slightly later models that came along just after the 2.2. Like the merc 2.5/3/3, Mariner 2.5.3.3 and the identical tohatsu version too. Almost identical things to yours. All that...

Bad engine coupler or spun prop hub?

That hub can definitely spin…it’s absolutely and inherently designed to do just that, in a sacrificial act, to protect the gearbox. Shocking statement from your mechanic/shop there. Knock the hub insert out the prop for a proper look to make sure. May not be to blame perhaps…but if anyone has...

Driveshaft won't move with lower unit removed

Hi. So just to be clear…with the gearbox as it is and separated as you have it. When you manually move the gear selector linkage on the exposed lower unit…into either gear…then turn the prop by hand…the input shaft isn’t moving ? If you’re trying to grip the input shaft and turn just with your...

    Help understanding survey conductivity ratings

Yeah. It’s generally not great, finding that. But depends what the actual figures were. Also good to know that any surveyor will always see fit to report worst case scenario and usually pessimistically reading for the owner or buyer to peruse over. It’s basically edging on ass covering mostly...

    How the heck

There is a procedure and position of trim to be followed in the manual, to do this. Also a service bulletin regarding replacing these too, after a known issue with them

Driveshaft won't move with lower unit removed

If I’m reading you right here. If you’re meaning the drive shaft that goes into the gearbox (from the engine)…it will be reluctant to move, just with you fighting against the resistance of engine compression of course. The shifting of gear, is only having an affect on the lower unit gearbox...

    Best prop?

As above needed for sure…but almost certainly, you’ll likely need a good few inches less pitch. Best get the numbers from a test though…before taking a stab in the dark at it.

Bad engine coupler or spun prop hub?

If they didn’t change the prop hub…it could be just hanging on, then suddenly let you down again.

Bad engine coupler or spun prop hub?

Be the hub I’d think. Any coupler failing that I’ve been about or close to…you know all about it from the smell of it alone.

    1973 Glastron V-156 Sportster

Hi. Good stuff. If you don’t mind me being blunt..if I were you…I’d definitely just buy a good used remote control box and loom, as close to the engines era as possible. Will have an ignition barrel and key integrated into the box.

    2017 Merc 115 overheat alarm

Yeah. That’s too hot for that engine. Mine runs mostly at about 52-56 degrees C. They run colder than any other I’ve previously been used to. Time to change the impeller, check the water strainer up top too. T stat on these have been known to cause an issue too. These have a cooling feed to the...

    Need propeller suggestions

Totally agree…would also add…that most might even suggest that even with the numbers…it can still remain a best guess. Props just sometimes don’t play by the rules…if there even are any ! Haha.
