8HP 2 stroke no start - Low compression

Ok. Yeah…just make sure you take it all to bits. I’ve messed with these wee things enough to know that my lazy efforts at it in the early days…usually just mean to need to take it off again and do it properly

8HP 2 stroke no start - Low compression

Takes more than soaking and putting back together. You need to go through every item and completely stripped apart. Particularly the float needle valve and assembly. Each one of the jets too. Doesn’t take much with these wee carbs. Did you re set the mixture to about 1 1/4- 1 1/2 turns out ...

8HP 2 stroke no start - Low compression

Not usually. Most carb cleans don’t really need any parts or further items. Not sure I’ve ever needed a kit for any of the dozens of carb cleans carried out on my old Yamaha’s around this size. That’s over a couple of decades at least. Ultra sonic bath is the ticket for sure. But if you’re...

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

Likely not. You’re forming a positive pressure from the normally low pressure suction side of things. Likely bypassing any chance of the normal arrangement, having the chance to draw air or be easily restricted perhaps. You may well be right in thinking that sort of thing isn’t to blame../but...

8HP 2 stroke no start - Low compression

Probably not a great idea to be fair. At the very least…it might make a mess of the paint around things…if not…attack any vulnerable components within the carb. Take the carb off and clean it properly. Honestly. Do this before going any deeper. It should run, even if she is 80 psi. Spraying...

8HP 2 stroke no start - Low compression

It’s a little low if the gauge is known to be calibrated..but most gauges I’ve known that aren’t of a certain worth and are calibrated…can be as much as 20 psi out very easily. Could also be down to conditions in temperature and remaining oil film too. I’d be quite confident that even if it is...

    Water pump seal I’d say.

Ticking/clicking noise Mercruiser alpha one 2002

Exhaust leak odds on…if it’s not a spark plug losing its seal.

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

Hi. Under the air filter and in the middle at the top of the engine, there is a fuel line cross over from each side. On that cross over pipe there is a small fitting with a black plastic threaded cap. You’ll likely know this already if you’ve had a gauge on it by now…Take this off and press your...

8HP 2 stroke no start - Low compression

Take the carb off it again. I’d bet money on it running again after a tinker with the carb and fuel system. Alternatively, perhaps check any other electrical components that might have suffered with the overheating perhaps.

Audio warning system on 2003 Mercruiser 5.0

Hi. Anything slightly above 175 is overheating I’m afraid. Throw into the mix, in slightest inaccuracy of the gauge on the dash….

    Gateway not storing fuel used

Ok. So this may not be the issue (again not familiar with anything other than the smart craft system), but you absolutely need to make sure that you have selected the correct tank. On the mercury system, there are options for the main fuel tank (fuel tank 1) and additionally, fuel tank 2/other...

    Prop problems?

Is this a new to you boat ? If not, did it go into gear previously ? If it is in fact an unknown to you, perhaps might be worth checking those cables again..or perhaps it could even be the cone clutch slipping, if you have such a thing there. I know some omc/VP collaboration drives certainly...

    Volvo Penta Ford help

Hi. It will be a Windsor 5.0 or 5.7/351/5.8 or close by. The 5.7 in those days was likely called a AQ240 or something like that. Commonly used in some mastercraft of the era too.

    5.0 GXI C no start

Check a look at the ignition wiring and terminal at the engjne. Make sure it’s not come adrift and shorting onto the block or similar. Check the diz cap doesn’t have moisture in it and causing issues too.

    Mercruiser shifting problem

Yeah. If you physically activate it with your finger for long enough…the engine will stall. Even for a fraction of a second…you’ll hear the engine cut ignition to a few cylinders (as intended when coming out of gear and when set up to do so in the water). It won’t operate as intended when on the...

    Hesitation at 2000 RPMs

Hi. Are you seeing this when in gear and under way on the water ? Or you mean it’s stumbling at 2000/2500 when you rev her out of gear in neutral ? Some mpi of an age won’t let you rev past 2000/2500 in neutral. It will limit the rpms. Some DTS versions certainly won’t allow you to rev past this...

    Oil pressure dropping

You’re within spec there I’d say. But just admit…always found the manual suggestion of what’s acceptable in terms of the lowest acceptable figure of oil pressure…almost ridiculous. If I ever had an instance of single figure oil pressure…I’d panic no end ! My 5.0 mpi runs just over 40 psi at...

    Mercruiser shifting problem

You’d maybe have continuity if it was making a circuit, as it would do when it’s triggered. But in this case, your ignition would be cut to half the cylinders usually and have no problem coming out of gear. When you press it manually wirh your finger, does the engine cut the ignition and verve...
