Excellent. Glad she’s sorted for you. Was only aware of this perhaps being the issue, from a similar experience with a slightly smaller modern merc. All the best

    Penta 5.0 GXi-E Cooling System issue/question

I may have missed you mention, but I don’t suppose the boat has a hot water domestic system, passively heated by a feed and return system, off the engine ? If it’s raw water cooled and it does feature this..I’ve a couple of times known this to be the cause of a loss of prime in the cooling flow...

    2010 Tahoe Q5i 4.3l will only make 3500-3700 rpm, 32 mph

Ah. Fair play. So you do. Who am I thinking of that runs a rev 4 on a 18/19ft with an upgraded 4.3 or small v8 ? Can’t remember now. Burst out laughing reading that post there. Brilliant and agree.

    2010 Tahoe Q5i 4.3l will only make 3500-3700 rpm, 32 mph

Of course you do Nola. Totally forgot about your rather special set up. I was aware from previously discussing, just remembered. Yeah. Had the exact same result around loosing grip with trim, on some of the props I’ve messed with on boats like these. The tempest is pretty good at holding on...

    Trouble coming on plane

Sorry if you already are aware of such things, but additionally to what I’ve said earlier (which is of most help to your issue), despite being a big fan of these short block v8 mpi and gxi engines…having one myself, I and others who own them and run them, will tell you that they can be a little...

    2010 Tahoe Q5i 4.3l will only make 3500-3700 rpm, 32 mph

Is that the mpi you have Nola ? I’ve propped a few similar boats that size and with the mpi 4.3 now. Found that these things absolutely and essentially require very careful propping, to run at their best. Fairly typical for them to be a little lazy down low, I found. Ideally they need to be...

Time to upgrade. Looking at 5.0 MPI w Bravo 3

Sounds like an expensive gamble. But if you’re keen and do still want to compression test her. You’ll find that if you pull the lanyard safety kill switch, you’ll be able to crank the engine over without fuel or ignition. Hope that helps.

    2010 Tahoe Q5i 4.3l will only make 3500-3700 rpm, 32 mph

Something isn’t healthy. I’d have a check of the fuel filter, if your numbers are accurate. You should easily be seeing mid 40’s gps on a bad day.

Mercruiser trim confusion - pur/wh trailer switch wire same as limit pur/wh bullet - why?

So, if I’ve read you right…all I’d say is that the transom trim switch is obviously not for the same function, as the other switch at the helm. You wouldn’t be requiring it to be used in the trimming range of movement. Like the helm control would be. Hopefully anyway. Haha.

Fairly sensitive to oil level, these things. Tell us more around the idea of the oil being to the full mark. Have a wee check that she’s not too full, if you are referring to a site glass indicator

Is it worth to fix, replace t & t pump on a 87 merc 150 with 80 compression???

Hi. An optimistic man, might suggest you run the engine then do a compression test after. Should a test be done on an 2 stroke engine that’s not been ram for a while, the usual result will be a less than ideal result. I’d also add…that unless your gauge is of a known and calibrated item of...

    Prop for Bayliner

There isn’t a prop that will stop a planing short hull with an outdrive, wanting to wander at slow speed. If that’s the problem you are trying to solve. Just takes a little preemptive counter steering at the wheel. The effect is lessened considerably, if you have the outdrive trimmed down to a...

    Trouble coming on plane

If you are getting to 5000 rpms (and not just stating 5000 rpms because that’s about the figure stated for the top of the recommended rpm range), then you are spot on and a typically perfect example of being perfectly pitched on the props. Yet to come across a VP dp powered boat (original to...

Have to choke throttle on 2005 350 Mercruiser to start.

Hi. I keep going on about this very issue on an mpi. The absolutely most common reason for this to happen, is because of the battery being on its way out or not able to deal with the load demand required to simultaneously crank the engine and still have enough available to run the ecu and it’s...

    5.0 MPI Fuel grade.

Normal stuff is just fine…but my opinion is that the less ethanol content, the better. Just to prolong or prevent deterioration to fixtures and fittings in the fuel system. If nothing else. Some of the more modern engines around, are able to control their timing adjustments, via the ecu, to suit...
