5.7 vortec pertronix and Holley big carbs timing

Hi sxott hi Scott. He’s getting his wee one settled just now. He will respond asap. It’s well past bedtime for young uns here in Scotland. He’s super keen and appreciative of the help. She’s been a labour of love this boat. Nearly there with her. Youlll likely be aware of the incredible...

5.7 vortec pertronix and Holley big carbs timing

Scott. Would you be setting them to 10o literally at idle speed ? And in gear and warmed up or not loaded up and warmed up ?

5.7 vortec pertronix and Holley big carbs timing

Thanks Scott. Fuel pressure is known as good. Gauges in line recently fitted and showing well.

5.7 vortec pertronix and Holley big carbs timing

Ok. Just heard back again from him. He has set the timing further up it turns out. His words below “Had a wee read there… i both engines timed to 9deg with medium springs in the pertronix giving 24deg at 3k with a total timing of 33 deg. “

5.7 vortec pertronix and Holley big carbs timing

Hi Scott. Just realised it was yourself. Yeah, see reply to Jimmbo there. Excuse the ignorance. I think the owner is signing up as we speak. He has endlessly bed time perused the Holley manual recently and knows the carbs inwards fairly well by now. But just very close but not quite there yet...

5.7 vortec pertronix and Holley big carbs timing

Hi. They are Holley 4150 600cfm. Both identical parts. Engines are the usual vortec 5.7 you get here to replace old engines with, if needed. In this case, it’s twin 350 vortec rated at 4600-5000 I’m sure. Standard cam and all the rest. But with the delco ignition thrown out and petronix fitted...

5.7 vortec pertronix and Holley big carbs timing

Thanks Scott. Standard 350 repower engine with big 4 Holley cabs. One engine runs great. The other seems to be lazy getting past 1800-2000 rpm (right about when the back two open). Can occasionally stall at idle going into gear.

5.7 vortec pertronix and Holley big carbs timing

Thanks Scott It’s a standard repower marine vortec 350. But with the Holley carbs. Good info. No idea on the other stuff to be honest.

    98 seedoo GTX issues

Spot on with that AD, as far as I’d be after.

better to be at the low end or top end of RPM?

Thought it might be the case. Honestly…they are just a shiny and heavier version of a standard ally prop…made worse, by then being heavy and harder to turn, in comparison. Terrible things, I think. Quite sure they are the cheapest, nastiest budget prop that merc make or made.

5.7 vortec pertronix and Holley big carbs timing

Hi guys… Something I know little about and less again, with this ignition system being pertronix…less further with a big Holley tuneable carb ! What are the general thoughts on timing settings on these ? A good friend has a pair of repower 2015 350 vortec engines with petronix ignition and...

2017 Mercury 150 EFI Bogging Down

Hi. Glad you have it sorted. If the plugs etc die the trick…but I’d suggest to look at the exhaust bore sleeve ring (white thing behind the prop), should it happen again. These can come adrift and cause exhaust to vent over the prop. Doesn’t happen all the time though. Can sometimes go back into...

better to be at the low end or top end of RPM?

Prefer near the top, personally. Might also say that your results from your stainless 3 blade at 19” pitch…might be letting the side down..might I be right in thinking that it’s maybe something terrible…like a vengeance? Horrible things. Yet to see one of them do better than the ally black max...

    Propeller Interchangeability

Hi. In my opinion, a mirage is a hell of a big heavy and huge diameter thing for anything other than a big block and bravo drive to turn. Even on them…I’m not a fan and since their era, there are since much better props at doing what they were meant for initially. You’d be better off with a...

    98 seedoo GTX issues

Check the power valves (if it has them) and make sure it’s charging from the rectifier. Could it be a fuel filter issue ?

    98 seedoo GTX issues

Hi AD. You’ve got me thinking for a minute there. But, yeah…there are rave valves on the carb 951 engines. These were used in the gtx models in the 90’s for sure. Maybe the 787cc did too even. I had a Di model from 2001. Before, around and maybe even after then…there was rfi models too. But...

    98 seedoo GTX issues

Hi. This could be most commonly, either a battery (or related) issue…or to do with the rave (power valves) valves, depending on engine. Have you jump started the ski from a running engine just recently ? This can blow the rectifier very easily on these. Means that a decent or charged battery...

    RPM Too High?

What age is the 4.3 ? If you are using the dash tachometer… it’s likely not too accurate anyway. The most recent of the carb 4.3 (into the 2000’s certainly) had a limiter at or before 5000 anyway.
