Fix here, or go all in...

I found a couple old pictures that show what I mean with the straps.

Take a sawzall blade, or knife, something thin and long, and slide around between the splashwell and transom. They could have put a bunch of putty on and mashed the cap into it where you can't see. If you can only lift two points at a time, maybe about half way forward of the walkway for the...

Also, I would really recommend a long strap under the dash/walkway. That's a lot of weight to be unsupported.

I can think of three things. 1. It could just be that as you're lifting, the cap is bowing, making the front and rear clamp onto the hull. It might just take some prying while you're lifting to pop it loose. 2. Those kinds of splash wells are often attached to the transom with thickened resin...

First, take the straps off of the hand rails. They might just rip out. When we take caps off, we either run a long strap under the cap from side to side, or place a board in some openings and lift from there with a strap. Basically, you want to lift from under the fiberglass, in places where...

Well I think it's safe to say you have the tools and ability. I think you should be fine doing everything but the glass. That's a lot of glass to be doing all at once, and it's not very forgiving. Once you catalyze the resin, you're there until you're done, and it doesn't care if you're ready...

Sorry I haven't been chiming in here, the site has been down for me all day for some reason. I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but I guarantee that if you take this on yourself it won't be ready by spring. If, for some reason, you absolutely have to have a boat by spring, look for another one in...

*Done. Internet is garbage today, couldn't edit in time.

The old floor was fone wrong. If you take it to a shop, don't cut anything out. They need everything in to measure from.

Do the entire stringer and transom. If you splice it, the rotten section will make the new stuff rot faster. When you remove the cap and floor, the hull will relax out. You need to hold it in it's original shape. You can build a cradle to prop it from the bottom, but I would leave it on the...

    83 Tracker rebuild

+1 on replacing the wood, it's done. Maybe a bigger cleat too, just to fit a second hook strapped to the trailer. Unless the one on the winch has the second strap attached to its hook.

We don't actually use much epoxy. The only thing we use from West is their Six-Ten epoxy on keel guards. I was just looking up boat repair books and that came up. I've learned a bit from it, and found stuff I would never do. I've also subscribed to the restoration section to help when I can...

I've been trying to learn more about my work lately. Boat repair is a career for me, so any knowledge can only help. I've been doing this for 11 years. I knoe how to do the work, but I don't really know much about the materials, design, or anything related to the industry. I'm almost done with a...

    Vintage Larson jet boat project

Cool. One thing though, I've been doing some reading lately, and from what I've read the epoxy resin isn't compatible with fiberglass. It has something to do with the adhesive used in the chopped strand mat, and it's not compatible with the polyester or polyvinyl resing used in the original...

    1981 Citation Marquis restoration...

I started writing before you had the pictures posted. I was looking at the phone just as I got the notification. When/if you do the transom, have a shop do the cut out for your outboard. There is a bracket that has guides for the drill bit to keep the bolt holes straight. It also has pilot hole...

    1981 Citation Marquis restoration...

Ok, I'm going to try to address all of your steps here. 1. Bracing: should be pretty simple. Do the blocks of wood on the outside edge of the hull like I said. Take measurements from the cap for your width, it shouldn't change much while off. Use ratchet straps to pull the hull to match those...

    Painting drive with delfleet

I've never heard of alodine, and had to google it. Reading this article ( https://www.gabrian.com/what-is-alodine-finish-vs-anodizing/ ) it doesn't really seem great for your application. Ppg makes good quality paint, although I've only sprayed it I think twice. As to the part about your...

    Bottom paint

@Chris1956 I'm not trying to sound like a know it all or anything, but this Bullet I'm working on shows what I'm talking about. It's a bit hard to see the little ones at the front of the bunk, but they're all over the bunk areas.

Winter mice are too much this cold winter in New Jersey.

I found this in a boat once. I don't know how long it was in there, but it still smelled strong and no signs of mice.
