    1969 holiday

The water is coming from somewhere. It could be a loose rivet in the hull. The transom also doesn't look good to me. Scrape and poke around with a flathead screwdriver. If anything peels off or feels even a little bit soft, consider getting it replaced. Look around the bottom for dents. If you...

    Big motoe + tiny transom

Just now saw my typo in the title. 🤣

    Big motoe + tiny transom

Luckily, for me anyway, that's not what it's in here for. Just lots of chips on the bottom.

    Big motoe + tiny transom

Yep. I see it all the time. A long time ago I saw one, a Skeeter I think, that was starting to rip the transom off.

    Big motoe + tiny transom

Bass boats love this combo of huge motors and little transoms. Nice open cracks on both sides of transom and wiring boot. The ones at the boot could just be screws that aren't counter sunk, they never are.

    Transom replacement or design flaw?

As small as that transom is, I like the idea of a brace. Maybe one on each side? Maybe bolted to the bottom if there is a good rib running across, or riveted to a strong point on the bottom. Through bolts on the transome with some big washers.

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

We use spray can glues. Lately we've been using uline, but 3m super77 worked great too. We've also tried locktite and gorilla glue, but that was too long ago for me to remember well. Give both surfaces a good coating and let it tack up before laying the vinyl down. If you try to stick it down...

WHY I HATE RUSTOLEUM AEROSOL PAINT

In my experience, krylon has way more solvents in it. My boss used to have me spray it on bodywork as a guide coat. It goes on mostly clear and still gums up sandpaper the next day. So lots of solvents and poor curing. Like others have said, shake it like you're trying to excorcise a demon. You...

    1966 MFG Rebuild

When I use two part foam, I cut 1" holes in the floor, spaced maybe 2 ft apart, along each individual cavity. Mix it about a quart at a time and pour in, starting at the lowest point. I'll crank the trailer's jack all the way up so everything runs back. One cup at a time for each section, give...

Help with paint color beige 1984 starcraft ss160

Your situation is definitely not ideal for painting. Look for an automotive supplier near you, maybe ask a local bodyshop who they use. Bring the boat to the supplier and ask them to use a color matching camera to match the paint. That should get pretty close. Ask for 2k single stage paint. For...

Making new dashes for an old Caravelle, should I keep the molds?

Can you elaborate? Do you think these old Caravelles are widely desirable, enough to justify keeping the dash molds? Personally, if I had to do just one more, it would be worth it, but it's not my shop. If there isn't a good reason to keep them, then I'll just be making the one part from the old...

Making new dashes for an old Caravelle, should I keep the molds?

I just took off the info plate on the driver's dash, and I can read it a bit better in the light. Here is the top line on the plate. Model CX 192 P Serial A35051

    Bottom paint

Although to be honest, I don't know how they are normally kept or how much time they spend in the water.

    Bottom paint

I have when we lift them to work on the bottom. Usually lots of tiny ones. It is less vommon, but can happen.

    Bottom paint

Something to keep in mind. Even though it's on a trailer, the bunks keep their contact areas from drying well. This will cause blistering in those areas. The anti-fouling, I have been told, isn't porus like gel. So it will help prevent this.

    1981 Citation Marquis restoration...

I just read through your project. I've been repairing boats for a bit over 11 years now. Here are my thoughts. Bracing: What you did should be fine. If it was me though, I would bolt some blocks to the outside, through the rivet holes, amd use ratchet straps. You can adjust them easier if...

Making new dashes for an old Caravelle, should I keep the molds?

Passenger side. Driver's side. Not out yet, I just finished taking everything off. If this doesn't show up, clicking the attachments brings up the pictures. I'm not going to keep spamming the pictures here.

Making new dashes for an old Caravelle, should I keep the molds?

I'm currently working on an old Caravelle (I don't know the year or model). I'm piecing together the old broken dashes to use as a mold to make new ones. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to keep molds to make more, or if this will just be a one off. I have no idea if there is a big...
