Bizarre starter behavior (won't "bench test" on motor)

I am not sure about Force engines, but on Mercs the starter is mounted in rubber, and needs a ground cable to the block. Do you have that setup?

    Random No Start with Boat

Doesn't the slave solenoid need to be marine grade? It is after all, in a closed bilge. We do not want sparks.

Bow U bolt Eye Tie Down Repair Question on a 20' Bowrider.

You are going to need some sort of backing plate for the eyebolt. Pick and cut the largest plate you can fit. You want to sperad the load to as much of the bow as possible A block of wood works as well. use large strong SS washers. The sealer is not important but use nylon lock nuts.

Mercruiser 3.0 Alpha One Gen 2 Barrel

I have only seen that kind of separation once. It was on a Merc impeller which was turned over and reused.

    Trim gauge

Sorry to put words in your mouth Scott. I thought you were going in a different direction. I have had a trim gauge on a MerCruiser and on a Johnnyrude. Neither were worth a darn, for the reasons I stated.

    Trim gauge

What Scott means is that the trim gauge moves too slow to be effective, and can only give approximate positions of the drive, say full down and full up. Of course, you can hear full down and full up, by the sound of the PTT motor. Also, you want to trim the boat by feel. When she handles...

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

A new head gasket for a 2 cycle motor is real easy, provided fresh water use. However, a bad head gasket could be a symptom of some other damage. It sounds like you should pass on that one.

Power trim not working just clicks.

Sure, the PTT motor is connected to the relays or solenoids, whichever you have. relays use a 2 wire PTT motor and solenoids use a 3 wire PTT motor. Trace the wires from the PTT motor up and into the cowling. Disconnect the two (blue, green) or three (blue green, black) wires and put a...

    Johnson 150/175 carb saw

So it is back to cranking but not firing? If so, spray some 50::1 fuel into the carb throats and see if it will run for a second or so.

Why not mount transducer well below waterline?

You could mount it next to the drain hole in the transom. There looks to be enough room to either side.

    Random No Start with Boat

A lot of those V6 motors have starters with solenoids that have a piston slide down a tube and physically push the starter gear into the flywheel, and at that time physically connect the electrical to the starter. The tubes can get dirty and cause the starter piston to stick. If the electrical...

Whoo Hoo! I have a hole in my boat...

I recommend a structural patch on the inside and a cosmetic patch on the outside. Rough up the inside fiberglass and lay sufficient cloth over the hole to match the original thickness of the hull. No need for any putty or peanut butter, except for top layer appearance. Use the heaviest...

2005 200hp Mercury Optimax Water in Gas

You are using a 6 gal tank on a 200HP engine? Thats about 20min usage tops, at high speed. You might put a proper fuel tank on your wish list. They have 12 and 24 Gal portables

    Need control box

I would think there are a lot of aftermarket OMC controls avail. I bought a Merc one a few years ago, w/o issue. A lot of aftermarket controls are universal and will work with Mercury, Mercruiser and Johnnyrude. You might check those out. Likely Teleflex makes one.

    Tilt running

Tilt switches are often the toggle kind that you use your thumb to work them. If they get water in them, the "Up" circuit can be completed with the switch in the off position. See if you can blow water out of them. If that is not it, look for rubbing wires in the control handle.

Why not mount transducer well below waterline?

You want the transducer to be just under water when the boat is on plane, if you can. Depth gauges are real handy at high speed, also, however, you do not want any drag from them to rob performance. If you have a spot in the bilge with solid fiberglass, you can mount it there, flat against the...

    Mercury 60hp Big Foot problem

Overheat is usually a solid tone. What year motor? 2 cycle or 4 cycle? If 2 cycle, check oil level.

Went to the lake and nearly got that sinking feeling...

Check the cockpit drain hoses between the ball valves and transom, for leaks. That is the place where they would leak, since it is below or at the waterline. Also check to see why the bilge pump failed to come on. You do have an automatic bilge pump, right?

Agreed, the connector is bad. If you can find a replacement connector, you could use some waterproof butt connectors to graft it to the old wires. something like thise...
