1973 18 hp evinrude Driver Coil test

The ohm values listed are the same as per my service manual for a 1976 40 hp. My motor uses 2 different driver coils. 1 for electric and 1 for rope start. And you are right that the 18 hp has only 1 part number. And that part number is different then both the numbers of the 40 hp.

    Identifying old 150

There should be a silver plug somewhere on the block with a serial number.

    Identifying old 150

Those decals look 90s to me. Maybe the hood has been changed? These are 1982 decals.

    Stuck water impeller stuck

The impeller has a metal hub. So if stuck it is not the rubber holding it on. If you cut it do not cut the key or the keyway.

    Stuck water impeller stuck

Carefully cut the brass hub with a dremel and a hit with a chisel.

    Gear Oil Everywhere

I have seen alot worse.. BTW if your running the motor at the level in the photo then it is not deep enough in the barrel.

    Where to start

Water has to be at least 6 inches above the pump as they are not self priming. It is hard to tell but I think the motor is not deep enough in your barrel.

74-76 - 9.9/15HP - Setting Timing when Flywheel has Multiple Marks

My 1976 40hp has the R and E timing marks also. And I set my points to the R mark. I believe you will find the extra magnets line up with E mark . And is in line with the battery charging coil, if you have one. EDIT I just reread that it is a rope start motor. My rope start flywheel has only...

This might seem like a dumb question ... But!

B is the inlet and there should be a fine mesh screen behind the round disk.

Updating the motor on an old boat

What motor is on it now? I think the rule is something like no less than 75% of max hp rating. So probably 65 or 70hp would be the minimum you would want . Edit okay I saw that it is a 85 hp.

    1969 6HP Impeller replacement

unbolt the gearcase and it should drop down enough to reveal the coupler. remove one of the screws and loosen the other one. The gearcase should now come off. As the others said do not forget about the pin near the top of the driveshaft.

    1978 mercury 50hp 4 cyl (blue box)

I think you are describing a mercury switch that kills spark when the motor is tilted up or strikes an under water object .

Suzuki DT55 Engine - Prop Spins in Forward Gear?

Yes reverse does not ratchet because you wont be traveling very fast in reverse to need it.

Suzuki DT55 Engine - Prop Spins in Forward Gear?

My mercs ratchet in foward gear also. I believe it's designed like that so when you reduce throttle quickly your prop doesn't stop spinning.. My older omc motors don't have that feature.. And when throttling back quickly it's like slamming on the brakes in a car.

Are you sure your battery and starter are in good shape? Including clean and tight connections.

    Nothing on key turn

Does the tether not just disable spark? So the motor should turn over when the tether is pulled but no start.. He says he has nothing when turning the key.

    Won't pump water when submerged

The water should be at least 6" above the pump. 8" above the inlets might not be enough.

    Classic Johnson 4hp twin 2-stroke

I own several omc motors and the 1978 4hp with mag flash ignition is the only one that I have with CDI . I like the universal magneto but I've never a had any problem with the 4hp. I have a couple Mercs that left me stranded because the ignition failed. And I have limped back to the launch with...
