Surge brakes not working. Where to start

Boat is about an hour away so just trying to gather all info before driving up to troubleshoot. Read about the reverse lockout solenoid. "A 12 volt solenoid valve connects to the tow vehicles back up light circuit for automatic brake lockout". So it makes backing up easy without having to...

Surge brakes not working. Where to start

I called the trailer co. I did explain that I dont ever put the electrical connection on to the truck because the trip from the storage are to the ramp is so close. They said that the surge brake wont work unless the plug is connected. What is the mechanism inside the surge hitch that needs the...

Surge brakes not working. Where to start

I have a 2018 aluminum dual axle trailer I use for a 25 Parker. I purchased it from Texas and it's very clean. It has surge brakes and I understand how they work. The tab on top that says " towing" or "locked" is in the right spot ( towing ). I've jammed on my brakes a few times in my Dodge...

Long cranking and turnover to start after warm. Questions about vapor lock and leaky Injectors

I checked a while back with a noid light to see if any injectors weren't firing. This was before cleaning...I will check again. Is there a condition that can cause a delay in the injectors firing?

Long cranking and turnover to start after warm. Questions about vapor lock and leaky Injectors

Spins for 5-7. Cranking speed and power sound normal. This weekend while out at the Channel Islands, I would push the throttle forward 25% and it seems to catch and fire up more easily. I just have to quickly bring the rpms's back down. I did clean and replaced injectors myself, have a newer OEM...

Long cranking and turnover to start after warm. Questions about vapor lock and leaky Injectors

My boat is a 2007 VP 5.7 Gi with the "crab" style Distributer. Recent work includes newly installed rebuilt injectors (cleaned and flow tested), new cap and rotor, newer ( about 40 hours) VP fuel pump, and new plugs. The boat start great first time whenever I take it out and the engine runs...

VP 5.7 WOT RPM question. Is 4100 RPM low?

I've read that the WOT is anywhere from 4200 up to 5000. I have a 2007 5.7 Gi with fuel injection and trying to figure out what is normal. I have a VP duo prop but don't know the pitch. I'm getting 4100 rpm at full throttle on a Parker 2520 with 80 gallons of fuel on board.

What are the essential tools to keep on board?

I got BoatUS membership, A 2000 amp Noco unit, and a hand held VHF. If a prop is serviced every other year, should I carry an additional prop? Can they really just fall off and how often?

What are the essential tools to keep on board?

I’m working on putting together a tool kit that I always bring with me on trips and wondered what everyone considers the essentials. I also I’m trying to figure out if I should keep both metric and sae tools on board. Right now my kit would also include some items to fix anything in an...

Maintenance on garboard or brass plug that is leaking.

Thank you all. To clarify, I backed the boat down the ramp to get it angled. Then add a few cups of water to see what would happen at the plug. I keep it in dry storage. There are some barnacles on it from maybe 15 years ago so maybe then it was docked in the water. Ill open it up and report...

Maintenance on garboard or brass plug that is leaking.

I had my boat out recently and saw water entering the engine bay but did not know the source. I read about a technique where you fill the hull with some water and look for leaks under boat. Well, that worked really well! I found the leak at the brass plug. I see that it is threaded in with three...

Gathering Components for adding GPS to Older VHF

Thank you. You definitely went above and beyond and helping me understand this. Even though my equipment is old and outdated, I do not wanna spend the money right now for all new systems. It seems like the best solution right now is to just buy a VHF With the GPS already built-in.

Gathering Components for adding GPS to Older VHF

I'm getting some of this but forgive me because this is one area I really struggle to understand. I was on the boat today and found a few things that might change the path I go. I did confirm that the chart plotter can work without a GPS. I also found that there is a GPS on the roof and the...

Gathering Components for adding GPS to Older VHF

Here is some more info if it helps at all to go a different route. I have the Furuno 1870 chart plotter. The device has an internal GPS. There is an option for an additional GPS to be plugged in.I think I can wrap my head around a puck gps unit going to the VHF. Just want to make sure there is...

Help with raw water hose ID 2006 VP 5.7 Gi-F

I think you are correct with that hose. Some of the diagrams are hard to match because the 2D drawing doesnt really match the real curves and bends in the hose.

Gathering Components for adding GPS to Older VHF

Thank you. Those connectors look good. Looks like my unit is worth about $70 used on Ebay. $140 for a new unit with built in GPS at West Marine. $30 bucks for GPS unit $12 bucks for 12v-5v and a few bucks for connectors. Maybe best just to get the new unit?
