Gathering Components for adding GPS to Older VHF

First off hello! I'm normally over in the Volvo Penta I/O forum. I have a 25 foot Parker pilot house and I'm trying to make sure all my safety equipment is in order since my kids will be on board. First , I have very little understanding of electronics but can quickly understand concepts and...

Help with raw water hose ID 2006 VP 5.7 Gi-F

I've been experiencing slow cranking when starting the boat and started to look for issues in hard to reach and hard to see areas. I finally wedged my head between the rear of the motor and the rear transom to see the bolt that has the negative cable on it coming from the battery. It was ugly...

5.7Gi-F Updates with some lessons learned.

Many of you have been very helpful giving advice about my cooling system and tune up pointers. Thank you all! I didnt have time for a proper sea trial but did drive around the harbor for an hour with the engine hatch open just to look for any issues. Temps still holding at 165 and the risers...

Volvo Penta 5.7Gi Closed Cooling Question

Thank Lou! I removed the expansion tank from the bracket and held it as high it would go when I added coolant. I likely filled it too much since it went well above the "max" line and dripped for a while out of the little hose attached to the barb opposite the cap. After running it for a while...

Volvo Penta 5.7Gi Closed Cooling Question

Wanted to share a quick update. I finally assembled everything today and did a 30 min test at the boat ramp dock. I ended up doing the exhaust manifolds, the risers, the impeller, the circulation pump, the heat exchanger, and the thermostat. Started it up and quickly found one small leak at the...

    Red engine motor year mystery

This was really helpful so thank you! I purchased this boat sight unseen from Texas. I had a survey, but still wondered how it had only 600 hours. There is a Parker dealer near Braintree, MA so Ill make some calls and see if I can track down any more information about the engine installation.

    Red engine motor year mystery

All right! Found some different tags that may give more clues to exactly what I have. I think half the reasons why I’ve asked so many questions about spark plugs and gaps etc. is because I originally thought I had a 1997 Gi-f. Here are pictures of the engine cover, and a few other tags that...

    Red engine motor year mystery

So now that it seems like I might have a Franken motor, I’m hoping that the spark plug up at .06 is good with this vortec Intake and hvs ignition.

    Red engine motor year mystery

I think you’re right based on this photo. It looks like there is black paint that was hidden and then red paint over it. I’m assuming the original red blocks would’ve been painted in the section and not show black.

That paper gasket on raw water impeller housing.

Looks like the kit comes with a bunch of paper gaskets that are for other applications. From what I could tell, my impeller housing does not need a gasket and seals with just the o rings.

    Red engine motor year mystery

The Parker I have is a 2520 built in 1997. It has a Volvo Penta 5.7 Gi-F . The receipts going back to 2015 and the hour meter state 650 hours and it seems accurate. The engine is painted red and has a vortex intake manifold and ( I think ) a HVS ignition because of the "crab" shaped flat...

That paper gasket on raw water impeller housing.

I pulled my impeller and cant remember if I saw the paper gasket on it. I see two o rings. One large one and one small one. The impeller kit the store sold me was the wrong one but I did see that it came with a paper gasket. These gasket are really thin and on a few videos online it appears that...

VP 5.7 Gi-F Riser &Manifold Gaskets / Spark Plug Questions

I called the previous shop that did the maintenance on the boat. They recommended NGK-5599 LASER IRIDIUMD ITR4A15 which seems to cross to AC Delco 41101. I guess Ill try to gap the ones I have to .060 or return them and try the iridiums. Learning how to redo the entire cooling system was easier...
