2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Thanks @muc that is helpful to know. It would be interesting to see where the attention should shift towards. I was surprised to see the TPS values at idle. But it could be a Volvo thing vs. Merc.

A couple of pointers . . . * 15 years and 70 hours is not a good mix. If the 70 hours are true, then the boat probably sat unused for extensive time periods * Most folks sell nice looking boats for a reason * Everything runs great in the driveway, but it means nothing. I agree that it is...

    MacBook Pro . . . Tragedy

Yes, I assume that the new laptop will come with the latest. (Ventura ?) My experience in upgrading the OS on older laptops is that you run into performance problems. So, I think this laptop (2017 MB Pro i7, 16 GB) is at its limits.

12' Pontoon/Fishing boat nose diving issues!!!!!

3.5 HP vs. 12 foot pontoon . . . Not much HP. Is the bow heavy with fishing gear or other stuff? Do the Pontoons have water in them?

    MacBook Pro . . . Tragedy

Also a screen shot of the OS & Hardware specifics . . . . . I think that is the latest Big Sur version. There is an update queued up, but it is the new(est) OS (Ventura ?). . . not sure I want to do that.

    MacBook Pro . . . Tragedy

Thx. I have not been able to open the MacBook up, because there seems to be a non-standard size of torx screws hold the base plate, or at least none of the small/tiny size tools that I have.

    MacBook Pro . . . Tragedy

This morning, I was able to get into the recovery console and run a re-install of Big Sur . . . We shall see how that goes. I'd like to get a more recent back-up of the data before I go over to the new MacBook (should arrive next week). I also noted the the disc structure looks different...

    Repairing damaged floatation foam

Maybe post a few pictures so we can see what you are seeing. As mentioned, the hull chamber should be cleaned out and dried out before new foam is added. Check the related structure for moisture saturation, as now is the time to fix it.

    MacBook Pro . . . Tragedy

Yes, getting some disc errors when I run the disc repair . . . Could be hardware related (SSD maybe or RAM). I have a 2 week old time machine back-up, so, I'll be initializing the new laptop from that (hopefully). I have 3 laptops with me ( 1 Mac, 2 Win), and only 1 is currently working. 2...

    Add Drain to Fiberglass Dinghy

The boat looks like a 'hull' and 'interior liner'. ("hollow" as you say . . . ) The challenge may be in drilling any holes to make sure they are perfectly and permanently sealed at both the hull and liner layers so water cannot get in between the two.

    MacBook Pro . . . Tragedy

I ordered a new MacBook Pro . . . M2 processor, 13", 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD. Probably will take a couple of weeks to arrive.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Much more clouds than sun yesterday and even a rain shower. But we managed to get out in the boat for the afternoon. The 'kids' (not really kids any more) played some sandbar football. The cooling system is behaving itself for now. . . Here is a close-up of our semi-delapitated jetty that...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

I got the new power connector and battery for my 'Diacom' laptop . . . put those things in . . . but the power button does not seem to work. I used this several times last year and now nothing but problems. So, maybe I got to order a new power button thingy, if possible.

    MacBook Pro . . . Tragedy

I ran some disc repair ops and there are some errors. (SSD) Probably not worth putting $$$ into a 6 year old laptop. I’m going to order a new one. About $2K configured with extra RAM and SSD space.

    73 mercury 7.5

As @jimmbo explained . . . The shift lever on the outside of the cowling can be mounted several different ways. Most commonly facing forward, but often you see them facing upward. If it is facing upward, then the forward gear will be the lever pushed backwards and the reverse gear will be...

    MacBook Pro . . . Tragedy

Well, my joy was short-lived . . . the MacBook ran all night, but this morning it went blank and cannot reboot. It gets a few seconds into the start up and then dies. Running on a spare right now.

    MacBook Pro . . . Tragedy

I should . . . Well . . . all by itself it restarted and seemed to be stable enough to run. It appears that the 'CleanMyMacX' software, which is supposed to make it run better, caused the thing to crash. I will see if it keeps running, and try to get a back-up of the data. I think I got to...

    MacBook Pro . . . Tragedy

My MacBook laptop of 6 years decided to go into a reboot loop all of a sudden today. I tried a bunch of things, but the situation only got worse. I first was able to boot into safe mode and it would stay running for about a minute then crash . . . blank (black) screen no error message . . ...
