Looking for a 35 to 38 foot boat that I can trailer

Most state regs are 102" (8'6") width. I just measured my trailer width . . . about 107" . . The bunks are 68" apart. . The trailer overall length is 37 feet. . . This trailer could probably hold a 35 foot boat, at the most. Probably a 35-38' boat would need even larger Maybe 40 feet...

Showing the Boston Whaler 13 some TLC . . .

The Whaler's time on the water this season was short-lived. Looked to be an ignition problem, and on closer look the wire harness was a crumbling mess in some places. . . I ordered a new wire harness and got it all hooked up . . . . . . . After figuring out there was no fuse provided in the...

    Is Vessel View worth it?

The 521-20 is a fault/warning message that the engine got too hot. It does not mean that the sensor is bad though . . . If you want to get full diagnostic info, find faulty sensors, etc., then VesselView will probably get you only part way there. For same/similar money you could get the Rinda...

Looking for a 35 to 38 foot boat that I can trailer

Here are a few ideas . . . Formula 382 - total head-turner :p Fountain 38 Express . The Formula might be an 8'6" beam, but not a cruiser . The Fountain is wider and has more cabin accommodation. Here is more the cabin cruiser . . . SeaRay 380 . As for lowering 'bridge' or more probably...

Looking for a 35 to 38 foot boat that I can trailer

What you are thinking may not exist. Tell us a bit more about your boating experience and experience with towing a large boat. I tow a 33 foot boat . . . about 11 feet wide. . . needs special permits.

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Also, found this, which is about the same symptoms as you are seeing . . . Not sure it is any help though . . . https://www.justanswer.com/boat/7ucr4-2010-8-1-gxi-j-engine-started-getting-alarm.html

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

One thing that I did see was that the Voltage Ref#2 follows the TCP Command slightly. The voltage rises slightly as the 'Command' value goes up and lowers slightly as the 'Command' value goes down. Is there a single connector or a few connectors for the throttle control? I am wondering if...

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Another thought that I had was. . . . something going wrong in the throttle control itself. Is there a full wiring diagram for the engine? The one you posted was for the controller itself and somewhat generic. Also, keep in mind that this effort (so far) is only to get the 2 voltage sources...

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Not sure. You should use a parts diagram to locate it. I'm reaching the extent of my V-P knowledge, sorry to say (I'm more of a Mercruiser guy, and they use a different approach to the throttle control) . . . Maybe the member @muc might be able to offer some suggestions.

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

I was thinking the TPS may be the issue, it starts of higher than it should and ends up lower than it should

What happens to the reference voltage if you remove the TPS ? Not sure you did that . . .

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Here is another combo . . . When the TPC are over 50% and the difference between the TCP and the TPS values are 15% or more, the soft warning occurs. 2 examples . . . . . . I am wondering if the TCP and TPS values should be close if not nearly identical, and when they are not and at a...

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Also, a 14% TPS at idle speed seems way too high. It should be more like 0-5% . Perhaps the issue is the TPS and not the TCP. Sorry for the multiple messages . . . I am multi-tasking with this thread and my Evinrude 25 HP, which I've been working on much of the day. 🤪

It looks like TCP only activates when the throttle control is put in gear. .

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

I am thinking . . . What is the difference between TPS ( Thottle Position Sensor) and TCP (Throttle Control Position) ??? I'm thinking the TCP is drive by wire, where there is no throttle cable. There must be something else in the overall circuitry that is shorted out and the TCP...

    Is Vessel View worth it?

I have VesselView 4 on my 2016 Mercruisers. It does not show fault codes, only warnings, which are not very helpful. The only value that I have found with vessel view is that it puts the more important engine and outdrive information in one screen, rather than looking at a variety of discrete...

    Lowering the bunks . . .

I'll probably just move the trailer forward and the weight of the trailer should get the wheels freed-up. Then I can take each wheel off, one-at-a-time, and do some preventative maintenance on the calipers (6 of them). This trailer has been in the salt 4 times. (Nov 2021, June 2022, Sep 2022...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

I spent some time trying to fix the original (old) laptop that has my Diacom software. After several attempts, I got it to power up and boot up. 😀 👍 The problem is in the power connector inside the laptop. The L-i battery is also quite dead . I got both parts on order, so hopefully this...

    Lowering the bunks . . .

Thanks for the replies. . . . I finished lowering the bunks and did notice that the bunks have a downward slope to them as the bolt holes have been drilled at the factory. 11.5' long and 13" above the bottom of the I-beam in the front and 11" above the bottom in the back. So, a 2" slope...
