    What oil to use??

Sounds like you got motor oil and not 2-cycle oil. o_O

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

I put 300 hours on the engines over 9 years of ownership, never looked back. No issues. Sold the boat and the new owner put another 150 hours on the engines.

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

Don't tell anybody, but I added closed cooling to a pair of engines that had 740 hours on them. Fresh water hours, so there was very little if any scaling inside the cooling system. I also did an acid flush of the cooling system to get rid of the small amount of rust that existed in the block.

water in engine, is it salvageable?

It looks like a visible crack in the first picture. It is often easier to verify the cracks before disassembling the head & block. You really need to pressure test both the head and block at this point as some of the cracks can be internal. If/when water makes its way to the exhaust manifold...

1995 Chaparral 2550 SX Refit and Restoration

Hi Drew, You mentioned setting the ignition timing to 10˚ BTDC . . . IIRC, shouldn't it be 8˚ BTDC at idle?

    Trim sensor adjustment

@silver_power I've been following your threads (saga) in getting the engine sorted out. I am not familiar with the combo digital and analog gauge set-up, as I have the next generation of 3-wire DTS sender. (digital sender only = a blank on the stbd side of outdrive) But . . . Is the analog...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Yes and thank you for your kind words. :) It seems that once I get one issue sorted out another one comes in its place. Right now my main issue is the delayed shift on the port outdrive. It makes things challenging at the dock as I usually have the port engine in forward and the starboard...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Probably why they fail at a fairly high rate. My boat went into service in June of 2016, so this is its 8th season in salt water.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Maybe, the fitting/sender is on the P/S cooler. I may try back-flushing the sea water strainers to see if it makes a difference. It seems like any deferred maintenance comes back to bite during the boating season. Since I did not take the drive(s) off to fix the delayed shifting, I did not...

    4.3 vortec to mercruiser conversion

Welcome to iBoats. . . Comp Cams has some marine cams. Generally marine cams are going to be mild and have a decent amount of lobe separation and minimal valve overlap. So, it is a bit difficult to get many extra ponies with the cam. @Scott Danforth and others should have more specific input...

    Anode in heat exchanger

The anode needs good electrical contact to the metal that it is protecting. No tape. I often put a little bit of Permatex on the threads so they will seal.

Fuel Injector Boat vs. Auto Equivalent

You can Google a few videos and other information on testing marine vs. automotive injectors. Isn't it less expensive to buy a new boat than replace the injectors? :ROFLMAO:

    My boat is being a boat . . .

I found the Raw Water Pressure Sensor. In the steering parts diagram (PS fluid cooler) . . I will probably keep an eye on the pressure. I'm assuming if the pressure remains low, that the possibilities would be: Bad sensor Partial restriction in the water flow before the sensor Weak/failing...

    Fuel tank capacity

Not much on the web that comes up with a Google search. If you want to find out the fuel tank capacity, look for a deck plate that can be accessed, where you can see the top of the fuel tank. There should be a certification label located near the sender fitting, and that label will have the...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Maybe . . . I'm looking for it in the parts diagrams . . . not finding it though. Speaking of Bravo outdrives, the delayed shift on the port engine is back. It is making docking a challenge. I had the Bravos on my maintenance list for this year, but decided to put it off until next...
