Just bought boat, most gauges inoperable

Much of the wiring is related to the engine, so see if you can get the service manuals for the engine/outdrive and work from there.

    Starter wont engage flywheel.

I had one of those distributors go bad on my twin 7.4's. One day the engine was running, the very next day it would not start. I replaced the distributor, problem solved. If you can verify no/weak spark, then you may want to replace both distributors based on the engine's age.

    Lookin' for documentation,.....

My recollection (not sure if it was from Don) is that the reverse rotation engines were used only for a few years, but not sure when. Otherwise, it was all done in the outdrive. As far as verifying, the problem is most of what is searchable online is hearsay rather than factual sources.

How much do you have wagered on this? I think @Scott Danforth is a good resource on this question.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

The 'old' boat (F-330) was getting tired and the Admiral liked the layout of the CY338. We saw one at the Palm Beach boat show a few years prior. Yes, I saw your thread about the Chappy 2550 - nice work. (y) You should go for the Formula 271 . . . a bit more space than the 252's.

First start after lower unit rebuild - new boat owner

Welcome to iBoats. . . . Generally, you would start the engine with the outdrive an a lowered position. Not sure about the water, but see how things look with the outdrive in a lowered position.

    relay

@Vinnieos Welcome to iBoats . . . Do tell us a bit more about the engine/boat, as that always helps with responses. It sounds like you are referring to an outdrive or an outboard motor. Let us know and we'll move your thread to the proper forum. :)

    Blige pump problem!

If it is one of those auto-sensing bilge pumps? Throw it away and get a regular float activated pump. BTDT . . . wasted a battery in about 1 week. :cautious:

    Boat Load and HP Rating

Boatus.org has some guidance on the posted capacities. According to BoatUS it is not a federal offense to exceed these ratings. It may be a violation of your local regulations to exceed the posted capacities of a boat. So, check with your local (state) regulations on boat capacities...

I/O taking on water while sitting not moving

It may be hard to pinpoint the exact location of the leak beyond what can be seen in the video. A borescope can help, but you may have to start taking things apart. Pulling the outdrive would be a whole lot easier than pulling the engine. So, start there. With the outdrive off, you can get a...

I/O taking on water while sitting not moving

I'll make a few comments to hopefully help. Odds are that there is a leak at the transom seal. These are often caused by the transom rotting. Not sure about 4Winns being wood-free, but maybe. Often the stringers are synthetic, but the transom is wood core. Boat companies usually do not...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Hey Drew, nice to hear from you. Yes, I sold the Formula 330 in Sept. 2021 to a guy who took it down south to the gulf of Mexico area. In October of that year, I bought 'the beast' (2016 Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider). It is one of those 'crossover' style of boats where you have both forward...

    5.7 MPI Misfires Under Load

@ksvista A few quick comments on the engine data . . . Engine temperature is quite low (120˚F should be in the 160 range) Timing advance is going up when you throttle up as it should, but then stays up at 24˚ after you throttle down. It would be interesting to see what the codes are. (not...
