What thinketh the membership here..... Useful or just hype

Bunk or roller trailer? If the bunks are setup right, and your backed into the proper depth, you should be able to "stick" the boat within a foot of so of the winch and get out via the bow.

    2001 Ficht 150 Evinrude

Did you by chance have the lower unit off and knock the exhaust housing loose? Makes one heck of a mess

    marketplace/Craigslist pet peeves.....

Have never sold anything w/o personnel contact. Ads primary purpose is to generate interest and hopefully initate contact. Too much information negates the need for contact

EZ lube hubs and cold water

You must rotate the wheel while pumping grease in the hub. Failure to do so will blow the seals out every time. Also check to make sure the right seal is installed. One size fits all isn’t the case here. Couples seals just 0.002” apart

    Humminbird Helix 9 GPS

Does not appear that gen 2 units support a remote antenna

Jabsco 37010 not pumping water in

If it will not hold prime you have a leak somewhere in your intake line. How are you adding water to the seacock with the boat in the water? Do you have a strainer (screen) on your intake?

    Humminbird Helix 9 GPS

You have it backwards. Will your unit support the antenna? Communications and power are the issue. In my world (Garmin) pucks are NMEA 2000 compliant and would work with any NMEA 2000 compliant head units. Have both Garmin and Lowrance peripherals on my boat Not a humminbird guy. They games...

1996 Evinrude Vindicator 200hp--engine keeps quitting on start-up

Had the exact same starting issue with my 96’ Ocean Pro 200 HP a couple years back. Would “catch”, run for a couple of seconds and shut down. Repeat at least 5-6 times before it would stay running. Once warm, started with the turn of the key. Problem solved with a new starter. Yesterday...

Confused about tank fuel fitting diameter

A 1/4” fuel line will provide enough fuel for 400+ hp. Look at the diameter of the metal fuel line in your vehicle. The reason for the larger hose sizes is pressure drop between the tank and the fuel pump. OMC says 5/16” fuel line up to 115 Hp Wouldn't worry if you talking about a couple...

    OK I’ve had enough.

Depends on where……some of the average high temps would surprise you.

    Humminbird Helix 9 GPS

If your unit supports it, looks like the antenna you need is the AS GRP - EXTERNAL GPS RECEIVER. Of course, you will need to install a NMEA 2000 backbone to support it

    Evinrude wire colors

A number of cable manufacturers are switching from colored to numbering as a means to identify the individual wires in the cable. Numbering is manageable on the bench but a pita for technicians trying to troubleshoot in the field. These work like a charm

    Trim Circuit Breaker

The issue is that manual reset fuses have been superseded with auto reset. The exact replacement is special order, this the min order requirement. No reason it couldn’t be replaced with the auto reset version or even a common Maxi buss fuse

    Evinrude wire colors

As someone who builds and supports electronics in the field…..tape sucks, big time. Dries out and falls off with time. Highly recommend labeling with colored shrink markers. We use these, but others are avaiable https://www.milspecwiring.com/Colored-Wire-Markers_c_524.html

    Closed cooling worth the money?

Guess the OE risers on my first and last I/O bucked the odds going on 10 years when I sold it. Putting 150-200 hours a year and flushing after each outing (trailer boat) probably helped. After running outboards for the past 25 years, want nothing to do with an I/O. Far too much work to...

    Closed cooling worth the money?

IMHO, FWC isn't worth the money. Saltwater, keep in a slip with limited us and never flushed, maybe under extenuating circumstances. Saltwater trailer boat, limited use, flushed after use, you'll never recover the hardware cost, let alone the labor involved in the maintenance and upkeep...

    Dumb Stuff You Find

My wife and her best friend (2 blondes) decided to take my brand new Civic EX, 5 speed for a spin. Just jumped in the car and took off. A half hour later I get a call that the car will not start. Jumped in her car and drove the 20 minutes to Frederick to check it out. I arrived to find not...

Developed for the Gemera four-seater, this electric motor, dubbed the Quark, is a tiny powerhouse. In a package that weighs just 63 pounds, the Quark develops 335 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. For scale, that's a 330-mL energy drink in the pictures seen throughout.
