    Another winterization question

No real need to pre-drain the cooling system (via the blue plugs) if you are going to run the engine on the muffs to pre-heat it and open the thermostat. Keep in mind that a fair amount of the AF will go straight out to the exhaust risers and never go through the engine block, so more AF is...

That's right - you hail from around these parts. Appreciated. (y) Stay tuned - not sure what means I will actually use to transport the boat.

    Boat fibreglass

Greetings . . . Welcome to iBoats. :) You should fix that before putting the boat back in the water.

I'm thinking to have a boat hauler take it to deal with the driving logistics. It is starting to sound easier to just take the boat via the water up LI Sound into Buzzards Bay. It is about 180 miles . . . probably could do it in 7 hours in decent conditions.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The Trailer on OSO is a monster ( for a 40 footer) not anything I can consider. I'm planning on an F250 or F-350 truck to pull the boat/trailer. I put it on uShip to see what I get for bites. Getting off LI it looks like I-495 and then to one of the bridges...

    Winterizing Question

That is not how the cooling system works . . . it needs a constant flow of liquid to the impeller in order for it to move liquid through the cooling system. As mentioned, with the absence of liquid (water or antifreeze) the impeller (pump) will have nothing to circulate and will quickly...

    exhaust bellows from a 7.4l gen V to a Bravo 3

I would check for a leak somewhere along the path for the exhaust, because it all should be making it outside of the boat. At idle speeds it will exit the side ports. Bravo outdrives are best fitted with the exhaust 'tube' rather than the bellows. The tube does not create a sealed path, but...

    Air Don't Freeze Winterization

^^^ This ^^^ I added full closed cooling to my Formula and it was great. I'd check the coolant strength every couple of years and for winterization just run some AF in through the earmuffs and drain the H.E. - Done. My (soon to be) Cruisers 338 has full closed cooling as well. The only...

Yup, that's the guy . . . I have a trailer on order from a guy in CT. If that falls through, I'll check with Riverhead again. I asked what they have in stock for a 33' foot boat and got "yes" as an answer.

Yes, I have the factory drawings for trailer setup - Keel to top of arch is 10'-5". Now . . . Assuming 2' off the ground on the trailer, it would stand 12' 5" once loaded to the trailer. Probably would be a bit less, more like 12' even, since the keel would probably be about 18" off the ground...

I checked in with Riverhead and they were not helpful . . . one word answers, so I'm not sure what they really have on-hand. Pricey too. I was able to find an opening in a trailer guys build/transport slot, so that will get me something in about 3 weeks. BoatTrailerDepot . . . made from USA...

    Second Happiest Day . . .

The challenge du Jour has been to line up a trailer. I have given up on trying to arrange for a transporter and will just buy a trailer and haul the boat home myself. (200 miles) A trailer would be nice, because I will be able to take the boat out frequently for bottom/outdrive cleaning and...

    Second Happiest Day . . .

Thanks, Scott. For some reason I was confusing it with the GM 6.2, which I think Merc used before designing their own block of same size. I am wondering if Merc 'borrowed' any design/component aspects from the GM blocks, or if everything is 100% Mercury? Does that also mean a single source...

    Second Happiest Day . . .

All the boat haulers that I have talked to are just way too busy to even think about hauling the boat. So, I might do the trailer thing now and bring the boat home myself. It would need a 12,000 lb. net capacity trailer. There are a few fix-its that I am having the current owner take care of...

265 hours on the engines . . . SeaCore, Full closed cooling, digital throttles . . . 7 (seven) batteries. Joystick, AC/Heat, Smartcraft, etc. . . . It will take me a while to figure it all out.

Is it the GM 6.2 base engine? Or is it one of the blocks that Mercury is now manufacturing?

The surveyor showed up in just a t-shirt . . . forgot his sweat shirt at home 🤪 It was not too bad out there . . . we were only out on the ocean for about 10-15 minutes. Just enough to test WOT, the trim tabs and a few other things.

    Second Happiest Day . . .

We had 5 people . . . surveyor, engine mechanic, a captain, the broker, myself. The props had all kinds of slime on them and it was a 2-foot chop. The boat feels very solid in the chop . . . We got up to 40 mph without and trimming. I don't think it will hit 50 mph, but probably 48 mph...

Here is the results from the survey report. I think the compression ratio is something like 11:1 on these engines? Not sure what the Mercruiser/GM spec is for psi, but 11:1 probably gets you upwards pf 200 psi.

A Quick Update . . . The survey and sea trial were yesterday - both vessel and engine inspection. Never seen a boat mechanic run out in the ocean down in the engine compartment, but I guess he got to see everything under load. Compression was 195 +/- 5 psi WOT RPM were 5100 and 5200...
