    Properly handling estuary, gotcha's etc.

@Sprig, I'm really looking forward to this. I don't mind a rough ride, just want to make sure I'm not going to capsize my boat or anything LOL. I can deal with some ocean spray and choppiness ;) I'll download the app you mentioned.

    Properly handling estuary, gotcha's etc.

Thank you @Sprig! That is definitely good information. Boat is a 24' Maxum cruiser We are going to stay in the Benicia harbor (or further if it's safe?) overnight just to say "we did it" and returning the following day. When you say the winds pick up in the afternoon, how late are you...

    Properly handling estuary, gotcha's etc.

I'll be boating from Sacramento, CA to the Bay Area (Benicia, and possibly further if I feel comfortable). I've done this once before many years ago and recall when exiting the river and entering the estuary the waves became very large (in comparison to our 27ft boat at the time). It's almost...

    Fuel efficiency for long-ish trip

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I'll look into a fuel flow meter for the future.

    Fuel efficiency for long-ish trip

I'm planning a trip that will be about 80 miles each way (from Sacramento to the Bay Area). I'll be staying overnight and returning the following day. I'm looking to get the most out of my fuel, within reason. How do I find an "optimum" (or at least semi close) combination between speed and...

    Wheel bearing grease "oozing"

Great feedback all, thank you. How would I diagnose this? Seems like looking at the back of the hub is one thing to see if the seal is blown out. Also make sure the BB is seated correctly. Any other diagnosis tips?

    Wheel bearing grease "oozing"

I have a dual axle trailer that I took late last year to have the bearings packed. The hubs have "bearing buddies". I notice on the rim of one of the wheels that there was some grease on it. I pulled off the bearing buddy cover and some grease fell out onto the rim. I also noticed some water in...

Weight distribution hitch didn't fit trailer rails

Why would you need to remove the bars prior to launching?

Weight distribution hitch didn't fit trailer rails

I see I didn't specify my max towing capability. My mistake. I've updated the original question.

Weight distribution hitch didn't fit trailer rails

I purchased a weight distribution hitch from Harbor Freight (https://www.harborfreight.com/10000-lb-capacity-weight-distributing-hitch-system-67649.html) After attempting to install it, I now know what I didn't know. I realize now I made a couple of mistakes: Mistake #1: I have surge brakes...

Swim platform refinishing and anti-slip / skid

I looked through my photos and these are the best images / videos that I have of it.

Swim platform refinishing and anti-slip / skid

Turns out it is in fact aggregate material embedded in varnish. I've started the work of using a heat gun with a dulled putty knife to heat the varnish / anti-skid and scrape the material off. It's taking a while to get through it (about 20-30 minutes per plank) and that's really only focusing...

Swim platform refinishing and anti-slip / skid

I took a razor blade to the corner of the anti-skid. A piece came off - it's translucent and embedded in whatever it is they used to coat the whole platform - not tape. So, I'd like to redo it similarly. Any suggestions on how to remove 90in x 5 rows of aggregate material embedded in varnish /...

Swim platform refinishing and anti-slip / skid

The color clearly is different where the coating is vs. where it is not. Is that due to the wood losing color because it's exposed or is that because the clear has some sort of pigment in it? I'd like to maintain the rich color. Any tips on how to coat it or what products one would use?

Swim platform refinishing and anti-slip / skid

I have a swim deck that looks worn. I want to refinish it during the offseason. In looking at the swim deck closely, it appears that it was coated with some sort of shiny, thicker material. I'm not sure if that's epoxy, polyurethane, some or lacquer or what exactly. It's thick enough to where...

    Winterizing indoor stored boat.

I read another post (https://forums.iboats.com/threads/rust-in-cooling-system.617837/) where it was stated that rust in the cooling system is expected. In my previous boat, which I mentioned above, I never drained the cooling system prior to winter and, when I did (during summer occasionally) I...

    Winterizing indoor stored boat.

Just to be clear, the block IS drained. That I did do, but I did it before I thought about the fogging / stabilizer. From what you're saying, sounds like that might not be that big of a deal :) Thanks!

    Winterizing indoor stored boat.

My boat is stored in boat storage facility indoors. The facility is not heated, however it is closed up from the hours of 6pm - 9am. Additionally, I live in Northern California in the valley where it rarely hits below freezing overnight. My prior boat I never winterized and it was stored at the...
