    Trailer weight distribution question

@Commander_47 When you get some figures/measurements for the following . . . 1) current tongue weight and 2) distance from axle(s) to coupler (ball) Here is my write-up on calculating axle movement to adjust tongue weight (assuming your boat needs to stay where it is on the trailer, and...

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Quick Update. . . The 3-3/4" ID exhaust tube is working out better, but . . . Getting all the bits of the exhaust system to go together is proving the be quite challenging. :cautious: Ideally, you would assemble/fasten the exhaust pieces from the Y-pipe upward, placing the...

    Trailer weight distribution question

Yes, there is a formula for calculating tongue weight and adjusting it by moving the axles. This question has come up before. Do you know what your current tongue weight is ? Also you will need to know the distance from the axles to the coupler (ball). If a tandem trailer, we can simplify...

    How old is your outboard?

My oldest outboard remembers rotary dial telephones. 🤪

8hp Johnson water out of exhaust

It's called a "Wet Exhaust" . . . It is supposed to have water in the exhaust. Water mixes with the exhaust in the exhaust port area of the powerhead so as to cool the exhaust. It is a thing with marine engines . . . both outboard and I/O. So when running you should see water spitting out...

2006 Chaparral with Carbureted 5.0 Mercruiser having alarm and limited power.

When you rebuilt the top-end of the engine, did you do any sort of inspection (or work) on the bottom end of the engine, such as the rotating assembly? Usually, when you hydro-lock and engine you run the risk of bending some of the connecting rods (pistons) and possibly damaging the crankshaft...

    Bravo 3 rattle and squeak

Outdrive full of gear oil? How was the alignment of the engine when you re-installed the outdrive? Is the gimbal bearing the kind that you can lube? Or the newer kind that is 'perma-lube' ?

    Newbie Hull Accessory Installation Question

I'd be filling the hole with epoxy, let it soak in a bit, and then putting in the screw.

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

1/2" of Urethane Foam would be good - the resin will dissolve styrofoam.

Flotation Foam in Half of Boat

Boats up to 20 feet are supposed to have positive flotation, per USCG regulations. I would have adequate flotation in the boat no matter how you do it, so the boat is not a sinker. My guess is 87 pounds of water weight by leaving one side of the boat until next year. Is there a prize for...

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

The 3-3/4” ID tube shipped today. So, I should be in good shape for the weekend to get the exhaust system completed.

    Integrated swim platform leaking?

Makes sense . . . it is where the 'top half' and the 'bottom half' of the boat join together. Usually, there is a continuous bead of adhesive sealant to keep water out. So, probably worth a look. Often the seam is hidden by the rubrail, so you might have to pull that loose to gain access to...

    Integrated swim platform leaking?

Check for any holes on the underside of the integrated platform or inside of any ladder hatch that may be part of the platform. Ideally, you should be able to get the back end of the boat submerged over the top side of the platform and still not have any issues.

Dragon Keelboat 1964 restoration... Need help!

I was thinking, maybe the hull could be re-made of foam/fiberglass, using the keel and ribs as scantlings for the shape of the hull and foam sheets as the hull planks. Not sure what class rules are on hull material and/or modifications. It will be interesting to see what the wooden boat 'guru'...

    Mercrusier 5.0 MPI (2008) RPM stops @ 3200.

Interesting that a baisc tune-up fixed it. I'm glad it worked out. (y) Usually that is not the case with MPI engines . . . and they drag you through the mud of parts replacements.

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

I think the angle will be OK, as the 'down elbow' ends up being mostly vertical going into the Y-pipe. My bad was not measuring the circumference correctly on the down elbow/Y-pipe . . . I used the coupler and took a rough measurement of 3.5", and figured it must be designed for such. Now...

    Bravo 3 Shift Adjustment . . .

All done . . . The second one went much quicker (naturally). The shifter mechanism was a bit rusty, but it cleaned up fine. Here is the almighty cone clutch . . . Hopefully, this will work out. The drives are 24 years old, but it seems that the port outdrive has had some work done at...

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

Vinyl Ester, if you are concerned that polyester resin is not good enough. I like using VE resin, because the working time before the resin starts to harden is longer than poly resin and the adhesion is better. No real need to use epoxy in a general re-build, and Poly and VE won't stick to...
