Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Picture Time . . . I got the riser extensions all assembled and the hoses connected, less a few clamps that I have on order. . . . The plumbing on the oil filter side of the engines is not as tight as it was before, thanks to the extra 3" of space. . The remote oil filter mount...

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Meant to say "over 12 years ago" in the previous post about the down elbows. 8 of those years in salt water.

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Quick Update: The 'Down Elbows' on the Starboard engine are in great shape, they look practically new. :D I wonder if they were replaced by a PO . . . but that would have been over 2 years ago . . . 'cuz the person I bought it from did not do any major maintenance as he owned the boat for only...

    Cabin Floor restoration, drain question

Storage would be fine as would some added drainage. It does not seem like there was enough thought put in at the drawing board stage of the boat's evolution.

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

I borescoped the Y-Pipe from top and bottom, and the bottom part looks fine . . . not much salt/calcium and no signs of pitting. the top of the Y-Pipe where the flappers go is not great, but still serviceable.

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

I got the blocks and risers on the port engine . . . . . Most of the hoses are an inch or so short, because of the new fitting locations. So, I'm fabricating a few hoses of the new fittings. The original coolant return lines were about an inch short and needed more of an 'S' bend. I am...

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

The parts listing for my engines show the exhaust down elbows as being '44267T' . . . the the ones on the engine are '44267C' . . . not sure there is a difference. Visually, they look the same as far as I can tell. I'm price shopping . . . GreatLakesSkipper has them for $50 ea. (Didn't GLS go...

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Ooopps . . . Show stopper . . . . . The 'down elbows' look like they've had it, once I got them cleaned up. Looks like I should get a couple of new sets and inspect the Y pipes as well.  😛

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Quick Update: After much searching and hassle with fastener sourcing, I have the right 'stuff' to proceed with the riser extension blocks. The 3" studs that I'm using on the forward side of the riser blocks were the most difficult to find/get . . . For some reason the supplier shipped them...

Why an increase in engine horsepower will hurt your ‘holeshot’, acceleration and midrange cruising.

@achris comments makes sense to me . . . Boats are different than cars . . . and so the whole thought process about power needs to be different as well. When you try to get more power out of the high end of the RPM range, it usually comes at the expense of the low RPM range. Often we see...

Great time to sell a used boat.

I guess the real challenge would be to know when to sell and then have the market tumble so you can buy at a much better price. Might be waiting a while for that process to play out though . . .

Great time to sell a used boat.

And the beat goes on . . . The market still seems to be moving at a fast pace, maybe faster than it was moving last year. I have been casually looking at Ad listings for my 'next' boat (used). Back in January/February, there were about 5-6 boats listed in each of the brands/models that I am...

    Boat seat cushion parts Question

Can you give us a bit of context as to which seat in the boat uses these and where in the seat it is located. Pictures of the seat and the block's location would help.

Great time to sell a used boat.

Definitely craziness in the market place for boats, RV's, even houses. I am thinking of selling my boat over the summer, but the problem may be finding another one at a 'reasonable' price, as Scott mentioned. I have never seen the used boat market so depleted of inventory . . . and the new...

Wanting to sell boat need advice and info

Welcome to iBoats . . . :D Go put up a classified Ad in the "Boats for Sale" section of the iBoats website. Solicitation/selling on the forums itself is a no-no. As far as the price . . . it seems like the VR6 is a fairly new model  Brandy new ones are $46K ish. It seems like...

Water in bilge pump screw holes

It is a fastener pad . . . otherwise you'd be drilling through the hull. The bottom of your bilge it the 'top side' of the hull. If the fastener pad was wet inside, then take your shop vac to it and pull the water out. If it is a wood core, it will probably rot or has rotted. If it is...
