Mercury 7.5 steering arm bracket help

There are days when I wish my engine was 1985-ish vintage . . . :p Those engines probably have some design improvements over the 1960-70 era.

Mercury 7.5 steering arm bracket help

Here is an image from my rebuild, having removed the powerhead from the mounting base of the drive shaft housing . . . The steering arm is still not exposed. so, I believe the saddle/swivel has to be separated from the drive shaft housing to expose the top of the 3 bolts that hold the steering...

Mercury 7.5 steering arm bracket help

You can move the shaft housing from side to side in order to loosen the bushings . . . It may take some persuasion and a few whacks with a mallet and wooden dowel to loosen them. They usually get stuck in place from corrosion. I am not sure if removing the powerhead will get you very far . ...

    Donzi Boat Owners Manual

The 'Owner's Manual' question gets asked a lot . . . The thing is that many/most boat manufacturers do not write/publish comprehensive owners manuals. So, they never existed in the first place, and therefore you will never find one for an older boat. Usually, you will get a documentation set...

Mercury 7.5 steering arm bracket help

It depends on what vintage motor you have . . . the older motors have 4 rubber 'bushing/pads' that hold the engine/shaft to the saddle. There are screw caps that cover them, and the bushings are held in place by "C" clips. Not sure about the newer models. If you Google the parts diagrams for...

    1990 4 hp yamaha 2 stroke

I have a Yamaha 3 HP of similar vintage . . . Single cylinder/ 2-cycle. It does not run very well no matter what I do . . . New carb, fuel system cleaner, etc. I am thinking these engines just don't run very well. At full throttle, the engine will die from fuel starvation . . . at other...

    winterise 4.3L V6 280 C

Me . . . Assuming you have a fuel injected engine? I disconnect the fuel line where it attaches to the fuel filter and replaced it with the line from the auxiliary tank. Another way I have done things is to empty the main fuel tank and then put back a few gallons of the 2-cycle mix (fogging...

Mercury 7.5 steering arm bracket help

Welcome . . . The short answer is yes, you need to take the whole thing apart, replace the steering arm, and put it all back together. You need to take the engine/shaft off of the swivel bracket assembly to get at the steering arm. Here is my thread on doing similar work to my Merc 7.5 . . ...

Bravo 3 prop shaft leaking. How to fix?

Get the Bravo service manual. Too much to explain, but as AD posted there are a few threads of folks tearing apart their Bravo outdrives (I did my outdrives a few years ago.) Not going to need a 'puller' but there are about $200 in special tools that you will need.

I must say, you are one busy guy . . . (y) Boat and house projects . . . it becomes a balancing act. I've also been doing a litany of house projects, now that the boat is put away for winter. . . . New deck, new front door, new slider, fix rotting trim, fixing rotted windows...

    Restoration 1984 Scarab I 21.5'

It looked like from the pictures that the cockpit sole was laid directly over the stringers. (if I've go that right) Therefore the strength of the stringer system would be (was) relying on the cockpit sole for rigidity, and a lot would depend on how well the cockpit sole could be adhered to the...

    Alpha one Gen 2 u-joints

When you say 'sealed' do you mean to say they are non grease-able (no grease zerk)? You will get some grease seepage, but considering you had water in the bellows it would be best to change them. Any growling noise during turns, etc.? I'd also get the kind that you can grease each year.

    Another engine temperature issue

Heat exchanger clogged? Riser/elbows clogged? Bravoitis? (Bravo outdrives right?) Marine growth restriction in the water duct within the outdrive? I would be thinking a restricted flow on the hot engine.

    Another winterize question

Mostly on a closed cooling system you are protecting from freezing . . . as far as corrosion, not as much of a concern. I run -100˚ F AF through the open side of my closed cooling system. There is a sea water strainer, sea water pump, the oil coolers, the HE itself, and the exhaust elbows. I...
