What issues would a leaky riser cause?

The firing sequence is . . . So when #4 plug wire is firing, #6 cylinder is at bottom of the intake stroke. When #6 plug wire is firing #4 cylinder is at the bottom of the power stroke. Considering spark advance and a slight valve overlap, I would think #6 would be back-firing (or knocking)...

Title and registration for my boat and trailer and motor

Assuming that you are asking because you don't have the proper paperwork? 🤔 😲🤪

What issues would a leaky riser cause?

I think you are wise to perform a second leak test to (hopefully) isolate the source. Going from 175 psi down to 30 psi indicates a significant issue . . . perhaps more than just a head gasket. You mention Closed Cooling (FWC) in your first post? You can confirm a head gasket leak by also...

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

As the discussion on MPI vs. Carb continues, would it be fair to say that MPI has advantages over carb at lower RPM since it does a better job 'vaporizing' the fuel and puts it right where it needs to be? It seems to me that once the velocity of intake air increases based on higher RPM that...

Bravo 3 Sea Water Pump - What's this?

One of my least favorite maintenance jobs - I only do the impeller change every other year. Brute force tends to win out when dealing with the intake hose.

Bravo 3 Sea Water Pump - What's this?

As far as 200 psi . . . it was probably lying around and had a strong enough wall to avoid collapsing under the suction of the sea water pump. Normally there is a wire coil within the wall of the hose to keep it from collapsing. On the exit side, the hose is under pressure, so it can be...

Bravo 3 Sea Water Pump - What's this?

Thanks the modified picture helps . . . Might be as simple as a splice to make it 'easier' to remove the water pump for maintenance 🤔

Riser Removal w/ Remote Oil Filter Attached

This set up? . . . You should be able to secure the remote filter bracket to another part of the engine while taking off the exhaust elbow, etc.. The hoses leading up to the fittings are flexible and should accommodate some temporary movement.

Bravo 3 Sea Water Pump - What's this?

Picture is taken too close . . . not sure what we are looking at besides a bunch of hoses . . .

980 hours on engines - compression test

I know . . . I should limit myself to sand paper and paint as far as fixing things up. The engines have been in there for 24 years . . . parts of the engine bay haven't seen the light of day. The less I spend freshening things up, the more $$$ I'll have to put towards the next boat. Just a...

980 hours on engines - compression test

I assume turbulent flow for the intake to promote vaporization of fuel and laminar flow of the exhaust to promote evacuation of the cylinder . I am thinking, as a game plan, to pull the engines after the end of next season (so October 'ish' 2021) and run a set of compression & leak...

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

All too often 'we' see questions like this . . . different sized engine w/ same rated horsepower. . . . and someone wanting to know if they will get the same result in terms of performance. Keep in mind that "Horse Power" (HP) is merely "Force x Velocity" . . . or in engine speak "Torque X...

    New 'Threads' ???

Yes . . . just wondering if there is a new 'threads' button/link somewhere. The "What's new" and "new posts" links are good, but then I find myself weeding out the existing threads vs. what are new topics. I really dig the "My threads" and "Threads with my posts" links . . . You used to have...

    Evinrude Fastwin values?

I think that they are a tough sell because of the age. So, the 'market' is only folks who collect those style outboards or need them to go with a classic wooden boat restoration. Most folks looking for a general purpose small outboard are going to pass those over in favor of something much...

Mercruiser 7.4 LX MPI Won't Start - No Sparky

Update: Here are a few updates to the Mercruiser ignition distributor 'saga'. . . 1) No word back from my inquiries to PSI or Delphi 2) Scott relayed some info from his contact @ PSI regarding the distributors . . . it looks like the same distributor is sold through a variety of channels, yet...

    New 'Threads' ???

The new forum website has been great. :D I really like the fresh new look and the underlying software seems to be much more robust than the previous S/W. The navigation is intuitive, so features and info seems to be easy to find. One question that I do have is the 'new post' show just that . ...

5.0L MPI Idle Air Control Valve OEM vs Aftermarket

Nice work getting it fixed . . . Aren't MPI engines fun? In my travels working on boat engines, I've come to realize that the problems are hardly ever - to the point of never being . . . - spark plugs - ignition wires - coil - IAC valve I got a bunch of IAC valves in my parts drawer that...

    New 205ss crownline-is 200 HP enough?

The Crownline website says it comes with the Merccruiser 4.5L MPI engine @ 200HP in the base model . . . the 250 HP version of the 4.5L is an upgrade ($10K ) . . . available in either Alpha or Bravo 3 outdrives. Sounds like you will want the 250HP . . . Is the uplift in price a...
