    Outboard Trolling Motor Mounting

What is the purpose of the motor? Pretty much everyone I know that mounted kickers to troll Stripers (2-3 kts) gave up and went back to trolling with main motor(s) Lots of mechanical issues, cracked and broken mounts, pulled bolts, etc. but the main reason was economics. The big 4 stroke...

Adding trim tabs, positioning, transducer placement, etc.

I’m running GT51-M-TM. Basically the same setup. Pretty sure that is a typo in the documentation. Had issues with SV clipping the out drive on my original install. Called Garmin Tech support who said the transducer was too far off center. Told me to mount as close to center line as possible...

    Saltwater boat reel.

That doesn’t tell me much. Species, method of fishing and line type determine required line capacity of reel. I use a Penn Slammer 260 for jigging Stripers to #30. Live lining I jump with to a 360 Live liner For whatever reason, Penn discontinued selling the Slammer and Slammer line liner...

What size reel are you looking for? What kind of fishing will you be doing?

Adding trim tabs, positioning, transducer placement, etc.

What transducer are you running that requires you to be that far off center line? I’m running 12x12 tabs, 4” in on each side Side scan transducer is centered 15” off keel, 7” off edge of prop. Leaves me almost 18” between transducer and tab on each side

    Towing and Cockpit cover concerns?

Agree…. Have towed thousands of miles with a snap on trailering cover or a full enclosure on the boat

Boat trailer rusting at welds galvanized

You have a couple of things going on. First, there is no such thing as a “galvanized” welded trailer. The parts on a galvanized trailer are dipped in molten zinc (inside and out) then bolted together so every nook and cranny is protected. A welded galvanized trailer would either be welded...

    Cannot Get Dust Cap On!!!

I repeat…..do not modify!!! The difference between a “press fit” and a “slip fit” is 0.0005”. That “tiny bit of metal” you shaved off is what holds them in place. It’s not the hubs or caps. You can’t make modifications to a part and expect it to perform as advertised. Follow the procedure I...

    Seaswirl questions

Can’t help you with the rest but…the bilge pump is typically wired so the circuit is always “hot”. Usually directly from the battery switch or the battery directly to a flat switch. The helm switch is used to over-ride the switch

    USB charger

Kill two birds with one stone. Wire a cheap Bluetooth to the radio and use your phone as a streaming device. Then replace “data only” USB port with power ports.

    Bilge under floor

Typically, the bilge runs from bow to stern. The holes you found are limber holes. Allows water for move from front to back of the boat

    Easiest to crank manual winch

Unfortunately, work is work. It may take "less effort" per crank with a 2 speed winch but depending on the gear ratio, may take 2 to 2.5 times as many cranks to retrieve the boat. To reduce effort w/o increasing duration you increase the ratio between the Crank and the Drum. The simplest...

    Getting out of the bay

Looking at the charts, it looks following the LI Intercoastal up to Moriches Inlet is your only option

    1997 175HP Oceanrunner Idle Adjustment

The motor doesn’t run once it gets up to operating temperature but it runs “great”? You substituted a homemade (inadequate), work around pump attached to a chuck of aluminum bolted to the block and don’t understand why it vapor locks? Install a proper VRO pump and I bet the problem goes away.

    Electrical Drain Issue

Where the brand new batteries fully charged when installed? How old is the spare? How was it fully charged? You think? Can’t sort this out w/o specifics The Perko switch only supports 2 batteries. How is the third battery connected to the switch? You understand the two batteries attached...

    Battery discharge. ...normal?

If you don't have a boat's entire electrical system behind a on-off switch your just asking for problems. People like to blame volatile memory and the likes for the consumption but your looking at 1.0 to 1.2 mA per week. That's nothing in the scheme of things. What many don't realize is that...

    Crappy hose

The cover stays in pretty good condition...... it's the liner that breaks down I run Trident Barrier Lined A1-15 (#365) to the fuel pump. Trident markets B1-15 hose (#305) as "Outboard Supply Hose" but the bend radius is much larger than the #365 hose which is why I went in that direction...

    Crappy hose

Having specified hoses for commercial and industrial applications for over 40 years, I never specify an outsourced third party hose w/o a manufacture's cut sheet. Unless Mercury went into the hose manufacturing business w/o my knowledge, or can supply a manufacture's cut sheet, Mercury's gray...
