    Carpet bunks and salt water

I don't do carpeted bunks. But I do like the "plastic" covers. I bought a new aluminum boat and it came with a new trailer. No choice. Before I rebuilt it I added EZ Slides (my cover of choice) and the $%^& things didn't work. Although I have had good success with FG boats, this was not up...

    Winterizing: Fuel in tank options?

I have an old classic car. Used to run leaded gas. Then it was gone and we switched to unleaded. Back in the day we used to have to have the carbs rebuilt every 5 years or so. We switched to E10 in the early 1980's and I have not had to rebuild a carb since then. My old Ponch as been...

    Help ID a barn find.

The Champion gas cap is almost identical to the OMC caps from the 40's and 50's. They were used on Evinrudes and Johnsons, plus their private label brands. Mid 50's Elgins generally used an all brass cap.

evinrude 25hp painting with mercury paint .

Your assessment is absolutely the best way to do it. The problem is that few non-professionals will have the equipment needed. That would be a big expense if all you wanted to do is paint one motor. Back in the day rattle cans of zinc chromate primer and lacquer topcoat, followed by hand...

    Seat Cover Ideas?

I had a Starcraft Seafarer and it was the deluxe model. The deck and seats were covered with MARIDECK. Only the bow seat was bare aluminum and there was no bow floor. I bought a few yards of the same color to do some custom work. Then I covered the bow seat as well, and added a plywood bow...

    Winterizing: Fuel in tank options?

I fill my boat tanks up on the way home from an outing. Thus, my tanks are always full. About the first of September I stabilize the tank, and then add more stabilizer every time I add more gas. Thus, upon winterizing I'm all set to go. I have a mountain cabin with some weedwackers and lawn...

Outboard Motors Corporation outboard model number?

Yours is a Sportwin. Here's a 1934 Fisherman, which is also a twin cylinder 4 HP. Yours would have looked quite similar and the decal would have been almost the same.

Outboard Motors Corporation outboard model number?

That number is too big to be a serial number. A model 4092 is a is a 1935 Weedless Fisherman 4.0 HP. Send pics of the ID plate and the whole motor.

    Which Witch Is This

1937 +- is pretty close. We need the model # to figure out the HP.

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

No need for regrets. You may have just hit it spot on. Madison Avenue controls a lot of what happens here because WAY too many people believe them. The auto issues are driven by Detroit, who are just in it to make a lot of money. Driving F350 dualeys is a sign of masculinity, or in a lot of...

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

BTDT. In the 2010's we were subject to carcinogen chemicals so the fit testing was rigorous. The rule was we had to change cartridge filters daily. Back in the 1970's, when our exposure WAS asbestos, we were given paper masks. The rest of THAT story is that the amount of zillion dollar...

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

When all the covid idiot boaters hit the scene, we decided to do all our boating on weekdays. The ramp I use most often has the ability to launch 4 boats at a time. This past year, other than mine, the most trailers I have seen were 2.

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

I have good ramps, good full roller trailers, power winches and a garage big enough to park the towcar with the boat still attached. Launching and retreiving for me is less effort than it would take to put on a cover if the boat were moored. Plus, with the boat at home I can polish it whenever...

Combatting Water/Damp Conditions inside of boat?

    1. Store it in a dry building. 2. If one is not available, build one yourself. 3. If that's not possible cover it outdoors with a fully waterproof cover. Before any of the above, get inside and mop up up all water and make the inside completely dry. I know people swear by shrink wrap, but I...

    Maintenance costs?

I bought my first brand new outboard in 1968 from a young salesman. He now owns the marina. Over 50 years as a loyal customer. My guess is that he would't give me a problem on a warranty repair. Remember the old days when you had to take her back for the "10 hour checkup?" THAT was a big...

can someone help me identify this motor

Could be. The cover threw me off. I didn't think a Johnny cover would fit on a Rude of that vintage.

    Maintenance costs?

I never thought about that. I currently have 4 late model Mercury 4-strokes and so far none have been in the shop. I have done all the maintenance myself, and by the book. But I never saved any receipts for any of the parts.

can someone help me identify this motor

Those are not model numbers. The model would be RD-22 or 23. Engines made before 1964 require a 24:1 oil ratio.

    Maintenance costs?

The OTHER bottom line is simply read the manual for what is required. Yeah, I left out the stabilizer, but that doesn't require a mechanic. Fogging is not in the manual for newer 4-stroke outboards. I DID leave out the greasing, but that's really simple. I DID also mention the fuel filter...
