    High Voltage

The motor operates off battery power, not the charging system. Batteries will not last long being charged at 18 volts

Issue with Electronics resetting when starting boat

Power to the fuse box is coming off a 50 amp breaker on the motor and broken out on Pin 6 of the the main engine harness connector. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/865506/Maxum-2400-Sc3.html?page=44 The power for my primary instrumentation runs directly from the ACC terminal on the battery...

Issue with Electronics resetting when starting boat

I = v/r. Current is directly proportional to the voltage and inversely proportional to the resistance. If tying the two batteries together doesn’t reduce the voltage drop, demand is exceeding supply. Dirty battery terminals, bad batter(ies), bad starter solenoid, bad starter....... typical...

Issue with Electronics resetting when starting boat

Powering sensitive electronics off/through the ignition circuit is just asking for problems. Power drops, noise, surges, etc. My ignition powers nothing but the ignition switch. Everything else is either powered directly from the house battery or in the case of the components connected to the...

Issue with Electronics resetting when starting boat

Is that 8.2V at the axiom connector or on the battery? Axiom spec is 8 volts…. Compare voltage at battery to voltage at connector. “1000 mca when new” doesn’t rule out a dying battery. Have you had the batteries load tested recently? I typically use this as a sign to replace my batteries

Issue with Electronics resetting when starting boat

Zz Too lazy to dig up your units specification but doubt they are spec’ed to operate at 8.2 volt Weak battery or the battery is too small (mca) for the motor

    Finding a short

Check for continuity between the negative post on the battery and the hull. If you have continuity check for voltage between the hull and the negative post on the battery.

'74 Holiday 18 Restore Mod.... Convert to open bow.

Adding weight or bulk to a failing structure is never a good thing. Will only make things worst in the long run. Need to address the structural flaw that is the root cause of the problem. Not put a band-aid the results of the problem.

    Trailer Brakes or Not

Is it possible….yes. Twice I’ve driven 400+ miles w/o brakes on a boat trailer combo of similar weight after catastrophic brake system failures. Gave myself extra room to stop and continued down the road. Is it “safe”? Depends on the operator’s skill level and your definition of safe. People...

Don't see a water pump on that list... If I'm correct it has 133 or 140 degree thermostats Having said that, where is the "flush" plug? Not going to cool properly w/o it

Boat trailer rusting at welds galvanized

The hardware looks to be zinc/cad plated. Hardware needs to be hot dipped (zinc) or stainless if you have any chance of holding up in saltwater

Boat trailer rusting at welds galvanized

Agh….”galvanizing” takes many forms. In this case it appears they “galvanized” a welded trailer. The trailer was either welded then dipped, leaving bare steel exposed inside or…..the welding was done after being dipped which burned the galvanize away in the weld zone. True hot dip trailers are...

    2001 F115 alternator output

I don’t care what they say…tell that to the AGM manufacturer that denies your warranty claim when they point out the use of a 15V charging system. No thanks… been there done that. At the end of the day AGM buys you nothing but a lighter wallet anyway

    2001 F115 alternator output

Not sure how that relates to model that is 12 years older. (2001) Even if true, I take issue with purposely over charging an expensive battery in direct violation of a battery's warranty Terms and Conditions. The advertised output of the F115 is 15.0 V...

    2001 F115 alternator output

Your motor does not support AGM batteries. You will not have any problems assuming a flooded cell battery and adequate time on shore power to charge between uses. Having said that, what are you doing that you need 240+ AH for a days outing? Can you get by with 120 AH per day and save #70-#80...

Looking for info on an overseas outboard retailer

Keep in mind that you'll have to get your transaction past US Customs and Border Control. If the motor is deemed a "Product in China" you will be accessed a 25% import duty. You will also be required to complete EPA form 3520 to certify that the motor meets US emissions standards. This is...
