OMC 6 Gal Cruse a Day tank

Nah, the miracle is that I've survived long enough to have dealt with those 60 yr old tanks when they were new.

Evinrude 1973 boat motor runs while out of the water but not in the water.

The original water pumps had a very high failure rate. Impellers would separate from their hub, causing almost instant seizure if it happened at high speed (which it usually did). I've seen it way too many times back in their day.

Evinrude 1973 boat motor runs while out of the water but not in the water.

It's been fried (severely overheated). Probably needs rebuild.

Not sure where to mount Faria Temp Sender on my '91 90-HP Johnson

Wherever you put it, it will display the temp at that location. That's why I try to put them at the hottest location. But in all reality and practicality, if you put it somewhere else and get a feel for what's "normal" for that location, you will still be able to detect what is not "normal"...

Not sure where to mount Faria Temp Sender on my '91 90-HP Johnson

Don't use the water cover, they will give a false reading. Strive for as high up as you can get, preferably on the exhaust side. Use a washer if you have to.

    1973 65hp Triumph Temperature Probe

Actually, there was a service bulletin suggesting re-wiring to defeat the thermo-electric choke.

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

That is the beloved OMC Lo-Tension Magneto. Do you want the electrical engineer's answer or the simple answer? Simple answer is the driver coil generates an electrical current as the magnets pass by. The current is from driver coil, through one set of (closed) points, to armature plate...

I have a stator question on my 1971 Johnson 85hp.....

    1968 55hp TR-10R troubleshooting Help

Well, obviously, you have a shorted wire or bad component somewhere. I don't know of any way we can tell where from a distance. I suppose a place to start would be to disconnect all the red wires from the ignition switch and reconnect them one at a time. Of course whatever is disconnected...

    1969 Evinrude 85HP - No spark

That is correct. Actually, back in the day, we set them to open a certain number of clicks for more accuracy. But I forget the number of clicks, so 0.010" it is.

    1969 Evinrude 85HP - No spark

That is what happens when they were not serviced. That powder is the anti-reverse spring, worn to a frazzle. The spring and powder are silver--in other words conductive metal. You gotta get it all out of there. New spring should be lubricated very sparingly with EP grease where it rides on...

    1969 Evinrude 85HP - No spark

Your click type is fine, assuming it is anywhere near accurate. More important is flywheel and crankshaft tapers must be clean and dry.

1968 Evinrude Fisherman 6hp (midsection question)

I have actually opened many of them, back in "the day". To convert yours to short shaft you have to find a short drive shaft and short upper shift rod. You can cut exactly 5" off the water tube. For parts your best bet is a want ad at the Antique Outboard Club's website www.aomci.com Ad is...

First things first. Remove and clean battery terminals. Don't just look at them and wiggle them. Clean them shiny bright then reinstall tightly. This simple thing will cure 90% of such problems.
