    Mercruiser 470 3.7 Harmonic Balancer/Pulley removal

Your weep hole should be open like in this picture. If there is a plug in it, remove it, poke the hole with a wire to make sure the passage way is not blocked and confirm whether or not the seals are worn before you get into a job you may not have to do. Has the motor ran hot at all? Overheating...

Closed loop cooling, sediment around thermostat…

Well you did a good job cleaning it up. Do you have the service manual for the engine? I think it would be manual #9 which covers GM V-8 engines from '85-88. It says the closed cooling system should be drained and inspected every two years, as well as the seawater section of the heat exchanger...

    Mercruiser 470 3.7 Harmonic Balancer/Pulley removal

Welcome to the forum. I have the page attached below from service manual #8 that covers removal and installation. I've used a standard harmonic balancer puller in the past without touching my front engine mount.. was not necessary. I do screw the bolt back in some and pull the rotor off against...

Closed loop cooling, sediment around thermostat…

What that kind of build up it looks like it wasn't always closed cooling. Looks like mineral build up. I wonder how Barnacle Buster would do to clean that up.

Need help with my 3.7l mcm 180

I wouldn't run those. The Mercruiser plug # is 33-97389. It crosses to a NGK-BPR6FS. Did you drain the gear oil out of the drive yet? If yes, was there any water in it? If it has Mercruiser lube it should be a greenish color. You should probably drain and the split the drive halves next. See...

Need help with my 3.7l mcm 180

Are you sure the drive is seized? What made you decide it is the case? Your first post on here was my engine is seized. So I am guessing, you tried to start the engine and it wouldn't turn over? Just clicked and the starter did not actually crank/or turned the engine over? A drive wouldn't seize...

    mercruiser 7.4 (L29) firing order

If I'm not mistaken, the shaft the rotor presses onto is shaped like the letter D, it only fits one way. Once you confirm which post is #1 you can paint a white 1 near it on the cap so in the future you know, or replace one wire off at a time when you do them down the road ;)

Speed sleeve for Cam seal /470 required items

Here's an older thread with some info: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/3-7-mercruiser-speedi-sleeve-for-cam-shaft.573934/ Did you try to poke a hole in the weep hole to see if it was blocked. That hole should leak out coolant before it makes it past the 2nd seal and into the engine oil if...

    Engine struggles to turn over

If your referring to a General Motors HEI distributor as in from a car, I'm pretty sure they're not marine rated for a closed engine compartment. The same thing goes with that starter you bought, and anything electrical on the engine, fuel pump, alternator. You want to make sure you get one...

I haven't bought anything from them for a good 8 years, but I never had a bad experience with them. They did have a good selection of 470/3.7 parts available back then.

    470 front pully removal

The pulley itself is one with the damper, it can't be removed separately. It seemed like the question was regarding the damper as a whole?

    1973 starcraft 4cyl inboard

You just got this thing. Do yourself a favor, give the thing a complete tune up. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser. Get a new inline fuel filter for the carb inlet and replace the fuel water separator filter, hopefully you have one. Start fresh with it. Believe it or not, years ago...
