    Insurance for older boats

    I have a 2002 Crestliner Fish Hawk 1750 and Farmer's insured it.

    Too big to beach?

I see at least 2 and probably a 3rd unseen outboards on this craft. If he can't work it off by putting the engines in reverse, tilted vertical if the water is deep enough otherwise as low as the bottom will allow, and moving the helm back and forth in a swinging action with as much throttle as...

98 Mercury 90 hp Throttle cable/throttle lever problem

Preload defined as push the engine throttle arm all the way back. Put the remote control in the N position. With the throttle cable center conductor connected to the engine's throttle arm and the barrel on the outer shield, turn the barrel so that it is about 1/4" (give or take) forward of the...

Sychonizing the Carbs on '96 Mariner 90hp OB

While you are diddling with that linkage, have a close look at the black, plastic do-dads that connect the throttle rods together. I have found them wallowed out and or cracked such that the link and sync setup can't be achieved. The rest of the link and sync setup is outlined in the service...

Mercury Spanner wrench for tilt and trim

I have a farm and lots of antique tractors and implements.....rust is in a lot of places. I use an Impact wrench on hard to get off/out nuts and bolts. A cheap version of that tool is your spanner wrench and a hammer to whack (impact) the stubborn fastener. Impact and penetrating oil get the...

    Unknown toggle switch

I had that too with a Mercury Commander 2000 control box...the one that mounts ON the bulkhead. My Crestliner has the 3000 model which mounts IN the bulkhead and the ignition switch mounts on the dash board. That switch does not have the detent function for choking.

    Unknown toggle switch

Toggle next to ignition to me means choke or fuel enrichment activation. I have a push button adjacent to mine on a Crestliner that activates the enrichment valve for extra fuel during first starting procedures in particular. Go to your device and check the wires color codes. One will go to...

    Tin boat prices

Since reading this post I Craiglist'd across the country and there are good deals out there. You just have to seek them out and go through the trouble to go the distance and make the deal.......good hunting.

Prop pitch for 150xp crossflow on pontoon

Well obviously that's not a run of the mill common toon so all bets are off! Looks more like "boys and their toys".

Prop pitch for 150xp crossflow on pontoon

Really! Boy am I in the dark on toons.

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Interesting comment! I often wondered what folks did when they ran out of "slick" Sears Roebuck catalog sheets...........

Prop pitch for 150xp crossflow on pontoon

I have no toon experience but isn't a 150 a bit much for a toon even if its 24' long? I'm guessing 150 would be workable on a tri-toon, but a toon? Never heard of nor ran across that much hp on a toon.

    Enrichner valve

I was looking at mine yesterday on a 2002 115. Resistance was 5 ohms and the battery charger measured a couple of amps or so....way down on the ammeter so reading wasn't all that accurate but it told me that the coil was working. Also I was figuring out the button on top of the unit. After...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

I had the mid 1970's I think, 4 cylinder 85.....the decal was blue, silver and red and pointed down on the tail end....Mercury had a lower case "m" (which I thought was very in-appropriate...a proper noun with a lower case first letter). Another of my fine Mercury engines. At the ramp it...

Mercury 90 Loss of power above 4200 RPM

Well your stiff bulb proves that fuel isn't the issue. Those floats look horrible. Get them back to new and shiny and you will be amazed at the difference in top end!

Can my old boat handle the power

Just a side note: On a rotted floor (deck), hull, I had a BIL set me up with a fishing guide on a trip to Florida where he lived. The boat was about 20' long, open skiff type hull, wood, flat bottom with a 90 Johnson. As we headed out to open water and waves started to occur, the bottom of...

Mercury 90 Loss of power above 4200 RPM

Nobody hit on this so I will toss in a bit. Fuel starvation would be my first guess so I would feel the bulb which should be soft, and then squeeze it several times to see if the RPMs increase which would indicate lacking adequate fuel supply to engine to run to higher RPMs. Next, what are the...

Is a Tiny Tach a good choice for testing?

Not complicated. Put the reflective strip on the rotating part, run it, point the laser at the strip and press the button. Done deal.

Is a Tiny Tach a good choice for testing?

I have one of those and got it off the internet for a very reasonable price...forget the number. It has silver strips that you put on whatever you want to test.....I've used a white paint marker to make a line when I ran out of strips. You turn on the tach, get the test item running, point...

Water pressure gauge or water temperature gauge?

Does it have a popoff valve in addition to the tstat for engine coolant regulation? Popoff valves (of which I am familiar) are much larger than stats and are designed to open up at higher water pressures present with increased RPMs and allow additional cooling (without the stat's involvement)...
