1966 Sea King 6hp idles ~ 10 seconds, accelerates then quits

Usually if the ball doesn't get hard, the diaphragm is usually bad, or the check valves might be bad? Since i started working on these 1986 I have seen only one bad check valve, and it actually worked. When I was working on the pump the valve fell apart and came out in pieces, yet it was...

    Startup procedure

My twin 88 85 Force/Chrysler used just about the same procedures, except it never started first try. It would cough, sputter or backfire. Then I could just turn the key and the motor would fire. As the port motor got older, for some reason it was real hard to start, one day I was trying to start...

The 88 is NOT a cone clutch drive. The cone came out later and was used in the big block applications. Then Volvo got involved and they started using it in all the drives

Force -need finding year of motor

First there was Chrysler, then US Marine(Bayliner) bought them and that brought out Force. Then in the early 90's Mercury bought them and in 1991 started using Mercury parts. Then in 95 they were pretty much Mercury except for the block. Then in 99 they dropped the Force completely.

Two different needles, one will be a solid metal, the other comes with a rubber tip. Look into the seat and see what's in there?? If it's solid, use the one with the rubber tip, If there's an o-ring, use the solid needle.

4.3 GL Engine Mount Bolt replacement

Before you go any further, do an alignment check before you replace. Then again after you get the new bearing in. Just changing the bearing shouldn't make any difference.

No fogging oil, use WD-40 or a similar spray. The fogging oil will make it harder to start. There's a slotted screw on the side of the lower unit, it's NEVER to be touched!!! The drain plug is on the bottom, might be an allen headed set screw? The only shifter that will work right is the...

    Force 125 lacking power

Good luck. A broken ring is still a problem. A broken ring is floating in the groove and can start scoring the walls, maybe you found it before it got ugly? It seems you've done everything and found a problem. I wouldn't disregard this. You check the skirt like I suggested? If the bottom ring...

    Force 125 lacking power

IF??? the ring gap was at the port cover, it would be there on all 4 pistons, you can break and loose the ring without doing damage to the cylinder walls. IF?? the gap is bigger than 1/8th.in. your missing part of the ring??? All Force pistons I've ever worked on has the locating pin(Redbarron)...

1966 Sea King 6hp idles ~ 10 seconds, accelerates then quits

The Chrysler/Force has 2 different needle/seat, one needle/seat has rubber on the tip of the needle and the seat is smooth metal, the other has a rubber seal in the seat and a solid needle, inspect both. The cleaners and soaks we use can make the rubber swell and not allow the fuel to pass...

1988 force Full throttle only 3500 rpm

I did the wide open test one time. NEVER again!! Tided to the dock isn't the way to get WOT unless you have a test wheel and run it in a test tank. The motor doesn't spool up when tied to the dock. The static timing should get you close enough

    Force 125 lacking power

Just use the old gasket and seal with silicone. Then do a comp test after the gaskets been reused. When you install the new gasket, do a comp test to see if the readings are all the same? It won't hurt the gasket until the motor gets hot and melts the sealer on the gasket.
