Four Wins Volvo Penta stiff steering

Watching this thread because my 1995 Four Winns with Volvo/OMC Cobra/Ford 5.0 has play in the steering and this is a similar subject. It isn't stiff to turn but if I steer one way I have to turn it some distance the other way before it steers the drive moves the other way, I don't know if this...

    Attempting a motor rebuild

If honing or boring a 2 stroke block do the ports need any further work to prevent damaging the rings? I don't know if 2 stroke ports can be sharp edged like they'd be after a bore / hone or need to have a tapered edge.

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Been months since my last post, not much boating going on in England in January! I've been doing a it of work on the boat on and off. The cabin furnishings were all dirty with the overhead carpeting / rat fur water stained in places. The carpet in the open rear was dirty. I bought a small...

2002 5,7 Mercruiser exhaust manifold keeps cracking - 5 times this summer

Been a few months since I last visited this forum, not much boating at this time of year here in England lol. I wonder if - While the engine(s) under load the marine manifold gets warm/hot, perhaps not even excessively hot, maybe no hot patches. But then if you come off the throttle suddenly...

2002 5,7 Mercruiser exhaust manifold keeps cracking - 5 times this summer

It's not an engine that's broken though, just the marine exhaust manifolds that keep cracking?

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

I did mean using neat automotive antifreeze, though maybe not being able to remove all the water (particularly from the engine) so there might still be a mix. But, yes, my question was about if I did get all water out would neat antifreeze be a problem. Now you've said neat antifreeze could be a...

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

I didn't think about the trailer springs lol! I've only used my trailer in fresh river water, is this something I should be concerned about?

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

I'm a little late to reply and the thread has moved on, I agree with you, but I was talking draining most of the water from my block, manifolds, PAS cooler and raw water pump and pouring in neat antifreeze. You did answer my question about whether neat antifreeze could damage anything such as my...

My 2015 grand dodge grand 's towing capacity

I owned a few Chrysler Grand Voyagers with the 3.3 engine and A604 gearbox, towed what we'd call a 'caravan' I think you'd call a 'trailer' (seats, beds, cooker, sink, toilet, etc, on wheels lol, weighing just under 2 tons). The caravan had brakes but the weak points were the engine not really...

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

Not sure what you mean. I understand the antifreeze has to be above a particular concentration mixed with any remaining water but do you mean too much antifreeze in the mix will damage the engine when it is started in spring? Another question to all - If the cooling system isn't airtight (and...

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

I'm in England, we will definitely have freezing temperatures but we're not likely to see temperatures much below -10degC (14degF) but it's still best to plan for -20C (-4F) and if we're doing that we might as well plan for the coldest temps antifreezes seem to offer protection against which are...

    Mercruiser 5.0 Mpi issue

If the average speed of a car / truck is (say) 40mph, then 850 hours use would only be 34000 miles. I can understand engine components such as blocks / pistons / etc not lasting as long in a marine environment but why would a distributor only last the equivalent of 34000 miles?

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Yes, I was thinking there'd be some siphon suck on the valve if the rubber hose full of fuel came off the fuel filter and hung down in the bilge... But now I see maybe not enough suck to open the valve.

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Ahh now I understand, thanks. I previously thought it was being described as an excess flow shutoff valve. I was thinking the engine at full throttle could suck fuel at around the same speed as fuel would siphon out of the rubber pipe if the rubber pipe became disconnected from the filter and...
