    Barefoot skiers?

Always found 2 Skies easy but I remember dad and his friends learning mono-skiing, lots of falling off and bouncing over the water. They learned mono-skiing then tried barefoot, method was to go really fast then try to kick the ski/skis off and stay up, none of them managed it for more than a...

1977 Ford 302 Rebuild Tips and Advice

I rebuilt my boat's 1996 Ford 302 engine. In case you're interested the link below is to a thread I started around June last year after just buying the boat when I didn't even know for sure which engine it had. The thread goes through me lifting the engine, rebuilding it with new pistons, new...

    Bilge Pumps Not Working

Thanks. Yes I have looked the boat over, heh, I rebuilt the engine, rebuilt the trim pump, fixed wiring issues. Thanks, yes I'll read the other thread and won't take continue to take this thread off subject.

    Bilge Pumps Not Working

I fitted my current pump in place of the old broken one but didn't dismantle it to check the internal design or try to backflow water through it. I expect water would backflow through it, what do you think?

    Sharrow propellers

I thought the Sharrow prop in the test was aluminium? My first thoughts were the test/review seemed like an informercial but I don't know anything about Boattest. Keeping an open mind, can't see me ever buying one unless prices become close to standard props. Remains to be seen if they'll...

    Bilge Pumps Not Working

Yes 2 one way valves would make it work. Don't know how much (without a one-way valve) a bilge pump would restrict reverse flow when it's off. For my purpose I'd want them to be quite restrictive to reverse flow when turned off.

    Bilge Pumps Not Working

Quick question - If I fitted a 2nd bilge pump could I Tee the output from both pumps together so still just have the 1 outlet hole in the side of the boat? Or would that mean that if only one pump was pumping it would backflow the other pump so just circulate water around the bilge instead of...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

The old stat is 160F. I can't check the new stat now it's fitted, I seem to remember it being stamped 70C (which is 158F) or a little cooler like maybe 65C (which is 149F). The designs are almost identical but the old stat has a small triangular shaped cutout at the edge of the middle part...

    Trailer tongue bracing? Help!

I'd probably weld it myself or (like @Scott Danforth said) hire a mobile welder. Would expect welding to be easier than trying to temporarily strengthen it by e.g. drilling holes through it and bolting more steel to it. But if welding isn't your thing would you also be out of your...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Been a while since I last posted here but I've been using the boat and it's still running well. Planned on using it on the sea or lakes but the weather hasn't been great so, so far, I've still only used it on a local river. Still had the same problem with the engine not staying hot enough...

    Need help

Years ago I did some work for a UK firm called Powergen, I did similar for them (helped set up a new QC and trace-ability system etc), mostly coal and gas fired stations but nukes too. Also done some NDT myself, mostly magnetic/die-pen and ultrasonic but some Xray bombing.

    4hp johnson slower than expected

As a kid I had an 8ft inflatable (with wooden transom) and 3.5 Suzuki, dad made up a stiff wooden floor for it, it would plane with us both in it.

Confused? Voltage Regulator vs Rectifier; Tach & Charging

Don't be in such a rush to leave Popeye, when I first joined I started a couple of threads about my (same) boat, moderators gave me a bit of a scolding and merged my threads, but the same moderators (also users of the forum) went on to help answer some of my questions. Nothing yoy wrote was...

    95 502 needs help

It'll indicate actual pressure regardless of where it's fitted in the feed to injectors. Pressure will be limited by the reg or pump, most likely the reg. If the pump can only pump to 30psi you won't get higher than 30psi, if the reg is set to 30psi you won't get higher than 30psi.

    O2 Sensor codes . . .

Those 2 error code descriptions combined often point to the probe's heater circuit being shorted to its signal output, a problem with the probe itself or its wiring, in which case changing the probe (or fixing the wiring issue) is the fix. Good idea to swap probe positions to see if the error...

    Math problem

Been said you'd need 15.36oz in a 6 gallon tank, 2.56oz in a 1 gallon tank. So if you already had a gallon of pre-mixed in the tank it will have contained 2.56oz oil. You added 16oz of oil, so now your 1 gallon contains close to 18.6oz. If you add an extra 5 gallons of fuel you'll have 18.6oz...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Yes I'd bet most people on the planet know about Holley carbs lol, I don't know much about specific features though. I was meaning to take another look at the Holley website if/when I got around to rebuilding this carb, I'll look sooner now, thanks.

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Thanks @Horigan, I appreciate you trying to help but as @Lou C says my fuelling setup is the Holley 2bbl. I haven't had the carb apart and I left it in the boat all winter when I had the engine removed. After rebuilding the engine all I did to clean the carb was put some fuel in it and...
