My motor was running after pulling out of water

I doubt the Engine suffered any Damage, there is slight risk to the Rubber MJ couplers downstream of the Exhaust Risers, but I doubt it. The Water Pump Impeller could be a different story, but without any new water coming in to it, it can't push the Water upstream of it, and that water likely...

1972 Johnson 65 selectric lower swap

You will have to tear the unit apart to inspect the Pump. Those Hydro Electrics are usually very Reliable, shift very fast, resulting in Minimal Wear on the Clutch Dog, and Gears. Of course if they suffer from Low Oil Pressure, that changes it

    How to decarb an outboard?

It is the Bearings where water gets trapped, and in some cases never gets out, leading to damage to the Crankshaft. But hey, if someone wants to be stupid and spray water into a 2 stroke, there is no law against it

1972 Johnson 65 selectric lower swap

If your 65hp is a Long Shaft, there is no way a Lower Unit with a Short Shaft is going function on it. The 5 inch Difference is in the Midsection/Exhaust Housing. The only difference with the Lower Unit, is the Length of the Driveshaft. With a bit of work, you can swap in the Longer Driveshaft...

    How to decarb an outboard?

Spraying Water into the Crankcase where it can get into Bearings and ruin an Engine is just plain Asinine. As for Rain, High Humidity is far Different than spraying water in.

    Camshaft specs. needed, modification feasible?

A different Grind will affect the Torque Curve of an Engine. What is good for making HP for a Car/Truck, is far from what a Boat requires. I know some People here swear by "RV and/or Truck" Grinds, I swear at them, the Grinds, not the people. Rump pa rump Cam Grinds loved in Cars/Trucks will...

very cool carb and intake manifold causing moisture

Water separates and hangs out at the Bottom of the Gas Tank, waiting to plug up filters. It really doesn't mix very well with gas, even those with 10% Ethanol My Grandfather was convinced that there was Water in the Gasoline, because Water, a Product of the Combustion of Hydrocarbons, was...

very cool carb and intake manifold causing moisture

Several Intakes were designed to bring the Exhaust Gas in the Intake Riser, right up to the Bottom of the Throttle Body on the Carb, to get enough Heat to melt any Ice to prevent Icing and engine Stall. Ford started Preheating the Air going into the Carb, in the Late 50s to reduce Icing. I...

    Camshaft specs. needed, modification feasible?

A bit more money spent initially by getting the part from MerCruiser, which will work very well, is money well spent. All the tweaking in the world of the Timing and Carbs, can not compensate for a non-marine grind

    Camshaft specs. needed, modification feasible?

Best bet, is to get a Marine Grind. I have seen far too many "RV/Truck" grinds, that just don't work well in Boats.
