Sprayed the waverunner this morning. Also brought in a big Harris pontoon. The owner just bought it and drove down a freshly chip and sealed road. Left some rock chips on the front.

82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

My bad, I stopped scrolling at the first comment. I figured all his testing would be in the original post. Note to self, learn to read.

Interesting. It makes sense that a thinner piece would be able to flex mor before breaking. I wish he did a test trying to pull the screw through too. That concerns me more than the flexing strength.

82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

I don't know, I didn't order it. 3/4 I think would actually be weaker because it's a higher ration of coosa to glass. If you want stronger, I would suggest getting thinner and laminating multiple layers together with glass to get your desired thickness. It is very light, but not exactly budget...

My opinion is coosa is crap. It won't rot, but it's super weak. Before glass, you can snap it with your hands easily. You need to glass both sides, and the glass is pretty much all the strength. Some might say that the resin will penetrate and make it strong, but I've done that and it really...

Thinking of trading deck boat for jet boat

I never understood why they didn't put a better screen over the intake. It's just two bars that you can fit your hand through.

Here's the one I got booted out of my room for. The back still needs painted. Edit: Woops. Forgot to set the camera resolution lower.

Plus all the stainless, windshield, anything with scrap or resale value.

    Bayliner Floor Project

If you decide to continue with the rebuild, just put everything back the way it was. It lasted this long, and there must have been a reason they designed it that way. The bunched up glass won't matter because you'll cut it out anyway. Just lay yours out better.

    Bayliner Floor Project

I would guess the negativity mostly comes from the fact that fixing it will probably cost more than it's worth resale wise. But it's still cheaper than buting a new one. Does that EVA have smooth backing between the foam and adhesive (not sure how to describe what I'm thinking of) or is it...

Nope. Being a bodyshop, it's mostly glass damage or rot. Hard to put a bunch of grinding dust up on display.

Sorry for the gap, not much interesting going on. In the room where I was working on the taped waverunner that I was whining about, another boat is getting painted. So I got moved elsewhere to fix another waverunner and a small lid. Just routine stuff really. The big one with the extended swim...

    Bayliner Floor Project

That has a lot of answers. Take lots of measurements, get all materials ready before starting, don't skip the safety gear. Probably. If you're fixing stringers or bulkheads within 1ft or so then definitely. If you think they're rotten "here", then it's likely to extend farther than you think...

    Repair before installing Keelguard?

It will with gel too. Gel is porous, and water will soak through eventually. That's what causes blisters on the bottom.

    Don't tape holes.

I'm hourly, but I make decent money because I care about the shop too. The quicker I get it done, the more money we make, and the sooner I get a raise. Everybody wins. It just annoyed me because if I didn't have to deal with the tape I could have had it glassed before lunch. Flex seal? Dear god...

    Don't tape holes.

Vinyl decals are different. The adhesive isn't as thick or aggressive. For those heat gun and acetone work pretty easily. Old one that come off in bits can also easily be done with the eraser wheel.

    Don't tape holes.

I'm pretty sure I have. It might work on some of the thinner stuff, but a lot of it is just too gummy. The stuff I just took off was really thick. Heat, scrape a couple inches, clean scraper, repeat. It's just an annoying waste of time for me.

    Don't tape holes.

Yeah, that's not how it works. Heat and scraper yes, but the tape will often come off in pieces. A lot of this glue doesn't come off very quick with acetone either. As far as being preferable to sinking, don't go out with a holed hull.
