#44 is the Gasket for the Four bbl to 2 bbl Adapter, which was never discussed by the OP. He showed #43, along with a Spacer that isn't shown in the Parts List/Diagram

    Carb Spacer

Oh, so now there is a Leak between the Carb Body and the Throttle Plate. That Gasket is part of any Carb Overhaul Kit. There is no spacer between the Carb and intake in the video

Video: What The Heck is This?? - 1999 VOLVO 4.3 GL - 2 bbl Holley Carbureted, ETS ignition

I would do Compression and Ignition Checks, on both Engines before spending time on the Fuel System. A dead Cylinder on one engine will hold back the other engine. Operator can try running with just one engine at a time, to help narrow it down to which engine it is

    Carb Spacer

The Mercury Parts Catalogs(at least the ones I accessed) don't show any spacer between the Carb and Manifold. I would get a second Gasket

Oil change interval, synthetic or no, curious what we all do

    1997 50hp Johnson - techron issue?

If you want to decarb the engine, go get a couple of cans of Merc Power Tune, and follow the instructions. Carbon Tetrachloride works real well, and OMC Engine Cleaner used to be pretty much just it. But it is bad for your Liver and Kidneys when you have inhaled the fumes

    1997 50hp Johnson - techron issue?

Maybe a bit of dislodged Dirt/Varnish/Gum due to the Techron, blocked a fuel passage in the carb. That is a Major reason pouring Dr. Quacks Miracle Elixir into the fuel tank isn't the proper way to clean a Carb

Oil change interval, synthetic or no, curious what we all do

Several of my vehicles have gotten over 300,000, and still don't burn oil, and that was by waiting for the OLM to announce it was time to change it.

    1984 J90 HP .060" over. Why not?

Since your Mind is made up about going with a 0.060" overbore, I won't waste any time regarding the reality of what will likely happen. Better you learn first hand... Good luck BTW, even a 0.040" Overbore is not considered Practical
