    oil leak on 3.0

My 3.0 also had an oil leak, I was told that these engines went thru front and rear crank seals. After a good long hard run you could see oil but in reality it just looked bad. I was actually using very little oil. Not wanting oil to get into the lake, I bought oil absorbing pads and placed...

1959 35HP Frothy Caramel Colored Oil

Hey...many of those old Sea Kings were made by the JonnyRude people, had a few myself back in the day. I can well remember the tan colored goo seeping out of the nooks and crannies from excess oil in the exhaust. Todays better oils dont leave as much residue being clean, green and all.. Just...

Replace Throttle Speed Control Gear on 1976 Johnson 35 HP

If my old brain remembers correctly, I believe there was a drift pin going thru that gear housing and the shaft it goes on...the hole filled with oily crud and made it hard to find. Small punch and hammer to drift the pin out.

    Newbie alert. Tilt/trim question Help!

I had a 79 Johnson 70 hp and it also had the shocks, not power trim or tilt. On that motor the shock assisted on lowering and raising the motor to the travel position. There was a small lever that had a position for up and a position for lower. When lowering the motor, I flipped the lever to...

    No start after carb job

Get a rebuild kit and do it the correct way, the kit will have all new gaskets. Soap and water wont help, soak in penetrating oil and carb cleaner, even acetone might help disolve the varnish and gum. Just cleaning rarely works

    Water stains

Fresh or salt water ?? On my fresh water boat, simple green normally works well, but when the brown (iron stains) get really bad, I have used Clorox bathroom cleaner in the dark blue/ black labeled bottle. It is designed to remove rust/ iron stains and water scale. I am sure their are lots of...

Having many boats over many years, some boats just throw up more water than others do. Shape of hull, length of motor leg, distance motor is from transom etc. Lots of factors. My current Sylvan throws up more than my other small boats until you run above 25 mph.

Stupid mistake: Can it be fixed?

You can also run kerosene thru the fill cap to help flush out the oil pan. Dont start the engine with the kerosene in there, but in many old car engines, I have cranked them over numerous times to mix the kerosene with the contaminated oil so it drains easier. Got to get all that milky oil out...
