Old motors DEMAND to be retired when they are 65 years old..

I have always wanted to write a book called made to fail. But I’ll probably be hunted down and removed from the planet if I do. Things must fail at some point to make the world go around. Where would we be if the things we bought lasted forever and never needed to be replaced.

    1978 Evinrude 70HP- Trouble starting/idling/bogging under load

Sounds like you may have a good motor. Run it good and hard before you pull the head and check compression again. Rings may be a bit sticky form sitting around.

    cooking

That reminded me of when I was a kid. I was behind a guy that was buying a massive bone in prime rib and jokingly asked what time dinner was. He said come by tomorrow at 5:00 and gave me his address. It wasn’t far from home so I did. Turned out to be a staff party for a small catering company...

    1978 Evinrude 70HP- Trouble starting/idling/bogging under load

Pulling the head is well worth the effort. If for nothing else you have inspection notes for future reference. Resurfacing the head is easy and would be worth the time spent.

    1978 Evinrude 70HP- Trouble starting/idling/bogging under load

It wouldn’t hurt to take a peek at the fuel pump as well. Kits are cheap and if it’s the original it’s probably due to be refreshed anyway. A leaking diaphragm will add extra fuel directly to the cylinder adding more fuel than needed. Could result in one plug being more wet than others and to...

Can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be this AM

My buddy’s dad makes sausage and hot dogs out of the big guys and it goes down good. The season just started here and will be good as always. We have such an over run population here they even they a $100 bounty on the does last year. Not sure if that will be offered again this year. The plan...

Could be. Even though you went to a reliable source new can sometimes mean nothing. Been down that myself on a few times.

If the bulb is collapsed generally there is a lake of air in the tank and it’s causing a vacuum. If you crack the fill cap on the tank can you hear air getting sucked in?

Nice mistake. I would have made the same decision. And you can’t go wrong with a good ole reliable Mossberg.

    Engine size for Wooden Boat?

That is some beautiful work but how thick is the transom? I don’t know that I would trust a 40hp and anything less than 2 inches thick. Just my 2 cents
