Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

Not really..did you use a fiberglass metal roller? Using that tool levels out resin, evens out the clumps and gets rid of air bubbles trapped under the csm I’m no expert but I did a ton of research while doing my transom. couple other things to consider. you could have started by tabbing in...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Did you use the roller on the csm? If you roll it out when things are wet it won’t clump. you can sand/ grind the clumps flush. Learning curve. the extra fuzzies happen. Cut them with the multi tool. It happens.

    Fuel tank installation

Hey all… question regarding where to place the neoprene strips when installing the fuel tank. I’ve got a new aluminum tank on the way. should these strips be affixed to the tank or placed in the boat? Ive seen it both ways. You tube videos and what not. I’m a bit confused as to what approach to...

great Progress. FWIW I recommend doing some more grinding.( at least 4 or 5 inches ) Fiberglassing over gel coat will not make good adhesion when you get to tabbing in your transom.

Colder temps with make the cure time take longer. Humidity will effect it as well. As long as your proportions of MEKP and resin where correct you should be good. any pics of how you clamped in your transom? As Chris said you gotta be within spec when as is said and done.

Fiberglass rolling tools( not rollers to apply resin). This will be to rollout air bubbles in your fiberglass. they are relatively inexpensive. I used cheap chip brushes instead of using a roller to apply the resin.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

I used a paint stirrer to get the globs in place. Then used plastic spoons to create a reversed radius. You want those to be as rounded and as smooth as possible so your fiberglass tabbing goes in much easier. i also used a 1qt plastic bag. Filled it with thickened resin, cut the corner about...

Agree with Chris and JaSin. Grind away the gelcoat at least 4/5”. Resin( epoxy or polyester) doesn’t adhere to gelcoat very well. Here’s how far I did mine

Cabosil is the white fluffy stuff you mix in to resin to make it peanut butter( regardless using epoxy resin or polyester resin)

Go to the stickys and watch friscoe boaters videos. That’s where I learned the lingo and materials needed. exterior grade plywood( available at your local home store) you need to decide on polyester resin or epoxy resin. I used us composites for my glass and epoxy. What glass depends on your...

4-28 update GOOD WEATHER TODAY put a layer of 1700 on the forward bulkhead in the fuel tank area. It was just wood. Geez then tabbed in the shelf for the fuel tank. Thickened epoxy and some fiberglass. Placed weights over the shelf. 3/4” ply. Should be good enough. I’ll go back and run some...

Update 4-28 Had a chance to start fitting the fuel tank shelf today. First had to trim away the old poor glass work. Cleaned up the old edges and dry fit the new fuel tank bottom with 3/4” ply. The bottom edges were cut with angles to match the hull. It will be epoxy resined before set...

Well I hope it subsides soon. Always wear sleeves. You may want to put baby powder on your arms as an extra precaution. That tends to help block the pores. You may be extra sensitive to the glass fibers. good luck. Hope you feel better.
