    Mercury & Force Compatibility

No they are not compatible. I think in 1995 Brunswick started to put Mercury LU at the bigger Force engines 40Hp and up.

    Motor dies then won't start

I agree from my experience. You can rebuild a starter more then one or two times. If the commutator are in good shape and the brushes don´t are so worn out that the copper cord has started to touching the commutator. The bushings can be replaced if they are worn. A machine shop will be able to...

How to set the shift and throttle cables and mechanisms?

They play and the procedure you do is not so uncommon in my experience. When the control, wires and the linkage get old is the procedure going from forward to reverse slightly and then to neutral to get the safety switch to be depressed a good way to handle the remote control. When you get used...

    Throttle/Shift Cables

Good to hear you have the new cables in place. Do not make any adjustment on the shift rod by now. Check that the cables are connected at the right hole in the remote control box (if you have the older Chrysler remote box) and that the cables are threaded in the connectors to right distance as...

0.25 Volts AC from stator. But ohms out ok. What to check?

Good to hear it is up and running. Please make a feed back to the forum on how long the gluing of the magnet last. For example after a season or after 6 month or so.

    Bet up by a 1998 120hp force

My experience is that the old stainless steel (actually swedish SS for instance from the company Sandvik who I am working for) reeds last a lot longer then the "plastic" reeds which was on the later Force engines. I have had some broken SS reeds over the 25 years I have worked on Chrysler/Force...

Does this timing advance rod (1985 50HP) look factory? Should it be bent like this?

Yes racerone you are quite right. That rod is home made, the factory rod has threads only in the ends. I think the picture give a miss showing of the rod being horisontal. A bend like that will flex, no doubt about it.

Does this timing advance rod (1985 50HP) look factory? Should it be bent like this?

Not 100% sure but I think the ball joint at the timing tower is mounted with a nut and in this case the ball is mounted up with the nut down. Think you can unscrew the nut and turn the ball joint 180 dgr so the ball will face down. Then the rod will be horizontal as jiggz and topgun says and...

Okey check for power (12VDC) at the terminal at distributor where the white/black wire goes and then the positive terminal at the ignition coil. If no power at white/black wire at distributor terminal but power at positive terminal at coil, then you have a bad coil. Power at white/black wire but...

If no power at blue wire but power at red wire you have a bad keyswitch. The gap at the spark plugs should be 0,025-0,028 in (0,7 mm). have you tried to check for spark at the ignition coil as I suggested in an earlier post? Put a HT wire in the coil output and hold the end about 1/4 in from the...

    Chrysler 105 no spark

There should be a id tag in the bottom cowl with model number and serie number. From the look of the hood it is a 1971-73 year model. There is points in the distributor which trigger the CD box. Check the points, clean and regap them to 0,010 in. The ignition system is feed by the battery so it...

    1987 Force 125 shudder/bucking at fast idle/mid RPM

Bubba, the OEM service manual do not mention any gap value. It says "Inspect reeds and reed stop for flatness and damage. Replace if needed". Check the surface and the pedals should rest to the surface with no gap that you can notice with your eyes. That is my suggestion.

    Throttle/Shift Cables

No I do not think so. Check that the shift shaft makes it's all travel and that the throttle starts to move when the shift has moved almost it's all stroke before the throttle starts to move. The throttle connector have to have a pre load about 1/4 and the shift should be adjusted right one the...

Check the grounding of the distributor, you have to have a wire from the distributor bracket down to the distributor housing. There are grease in the distributor swivel which insulate. Check for spark if you connect a spark plug right on the ignition coil. If you then get spark the distributor...

0.25 Volts AC from stator. But ohms out ok. What to check?

If you are handy you can build your own DVA adapter. Google DVA adapter and the schematics will show up. I have made a couple of DVA adapters myself. It is a diod, a capacitor and a resistor. Really simple to build and the DVA adapters purpose is to store the peak voltage from the stator in the...

    1991 Force 150 hp

The 150Hp was manufactured from 1989 until 1994 and they had the 2 piece drive shaft. I am not 100% sure but in 1989 the 85Hp and the 125Hp had the 1 piece drive shaft. Pre 1989 they (85 and 125Hp) had 1 piece drive shaft. In 1990 the 85Hp was replaced by the 90Hp and the 125Hp by the 120Hp and...

    1991 Force 150 hp

No there are no Mercury LU that will fit. 1 piece LU from Chrysler 3 and 4 cylinder and Force 3 and 4 cylinder will fit. As your 150Hp is a 1991 year model the LU has the 2 piece drive shaft but a LU with 1 piece drive shaft should fit too.

CDI Electronics has a aftermarket CD box for the Motorola box. Part# 115-3301, but it is expensive, about 400 dollars. I suggest you to troubleshoot the ignition system first. Outboardignitiondotcom has the troubleshoot chart. The system is quit simple, CD box, distributor with points or a...
