    Start with checking compression and then for spark. If the compression is good (130-150 PSI) and close even with the cylinders and you have good strong spark at both cylinders, then clean the carb and check the water impeller pump.

    When shuts down check if you have a spark issue or fuel issue. Put an inline fuel filter after the pump and before the carbs. This will help you to see if it is a electrical issue or fuel issue.

    1989 ish Mercury Force 120 ignition issues

    When I rebuild or do anything with an OB that has to seal or reseal something I use Permatex Aviation no 3 form a gasket. My experience is that it is useful at the engine block or at the LU. It is easy to use and apply cause there is a brush built in the cap.
