Topped off battery with Distilled water....Why not with battery acid???? Opinions???

I have about 15 batteries to keep tabs on and I thought the right answer was to keep all on trickle chargers constantly as long as they weren't in operation. Result.......you guessed it...even though the max current was only 1 amp, over time it boiled the water out, even with the newer...

Can I put a 28 hp Johnson on my 14' Aluminum Sea King?

I had a 14' Mirrocraft like these but with console steering from the rear seat and a 30 HP Merc Mark 30 pushing it. Ran out real nice and that hull was smooth riding on 10-20k acre lakes. Fishing buddy had a 14' Alumacraft with the same type of steering setup and a 33 HP Johnson. Ran out real...

Anchor Industries Deckette Pro 160 16 foot Specs

That hull is basically flat. A flat board is hard on your back in anything but smooth water. Back in the day, raising 4 kids and most Sunday's were boating after church, I looked into deck boats because initially I thought that would be just right for my family.....never happened and the main...

    83' 115hp Mercury, prop slip

That's why Karl K. had 2 bladed props on all his engines for efficiency reasons.....fewer blades (over 1) the more efficient..... till he changed paint colors and started manufacturing 100 hp I6 engines for big, heavy boats. Some skeptics (I guess) claimed that his engines put out more HP than...

Because that's just what we do.

    83' 115hp Mercury, prop slip

Some "guesstimates are that cupping adds 1" of pitch. Problem with attempting to verify that is that you would have to take a specific cupped prop, take it to a prop shop and have them flatten out the trailing edge of the blades and get back to the water under absolutely exactly (ha) the same...

    TILT / Trim

I don't know....I was a Johny-Rude guy back then.....getting out run by every green/white/or black engine out there.....decided if you can't beat them join them. Haven't been sorry.....pretty much.

    2004 Mercury 115 ELPTO surging

That will expose a lot of sins. Surging is fuel related and obviously RPMs fall off when fuel flow falls off. When the PO said he checked the onboard fuel filter (and there are 2 on that engine, a large one visible from the Port side of the engine with the cowling off and another much smaller...

    Mercury control compatability

Probably since the year models are close and in the 1990's big changes in designs and colors had pretty much settled out for non technology changing idea adaptation. A quick look will tell you for sure. Faztbullet can tell you for sure. Ping him.

    Test wheel needed

That certainly would be a more accurate method of determining the operation of an engine.

    TILT / Trim

If it has power trim it can "tilt". Tilt is specified separately because some engines have/had only that option (I did on my 1972 Johnson 125) and the tilt doesn't have enough pressure to work at higher speeds where the force against the lower unit is too great for it's available pressure...

    Test wheel needed

I would suggest you go to a boat dealer's service area and ask the manager for what you seek, or likewise at a repair shop. Faztbullet who posts on here regularly, is a shop owner and certified mechanic. Might "ping" him.

Okaye. You have more access to them than I do. Sorry for the disinfo.

    TILT / Trim

As others have said a single cylinder will elude to power tilt. Power tilt is made for idle speeds and contains a popoff valve. If you only have PT, if you have the engine tilted up and attempt to get on plane, the tilt pressure on the hydraulics causes the over pressure valve to open and you...

    STAINLESS OR NOT

I totally agree that your water determines your prop material. Case in point, a new local lake was being built and as the story goes the lake started filling before the builder finished his work and got his equipment out. The real bummer in this miscarriage, is that up one of the creeks that...

2005 Mercury 115 ELPTO No Spark

40.000 unloaded....aka no spark plug attached i what Mercury has been advertising since going to the Capacitor Discharge Ignition systems, for decades. With that voltage potential, while unloaded, the rise time of the pulse will be in single digit microseconds, not in milliseconds like...

Back to the original question: NIM 713, are you still here? Have you made any decisions as to your plans? Did you give any thought to what I said? Did you try it? If so, the results?

    Cost of carb rebuild

I don't know what heat has to do with puddling. I have no idea as to what the writer of the article had for reference material. Maybe he was blowing hot air and maybe he was sitting down with the Merc. engineers that developed the design. Iterating what I said before, he coined the...
