    Extended Warranty

A little over 20 years ago I was a claims adjuster for the biggest seller of these in North America. I can’t speak to how it works on the other side of the pond, but here in the U.S. I recommend them to friends and family when they buy a new boat. The dealer gets 50% of the price, so they will...

    DPS pressure and vac testing

Use motor oil at the possible leak points. It will either get sucked in or you will stop loosing vacuum. Have you pulled the drive to check for water in the bellows? The seal behind the u-joints will sometimes allow water in but still hold pressure. Also, when you’re pressure testing did you...

Newer Mercruiser Cooling System Questions . . .

Yes, I believe that pretty much sums up coolant flow for the engine. The exhaust manifolds will have constant flow from the crossover to the manifolds to the heat exchanger And back to the crossover. I think there is only seals between the crossover and heads.

Newer Mercruiser Cooling System Questions . . .

Yes, you are correct your engines do have the crossover and the parts breakdown you posted is the right one.. I was wrong. Note that when you pressure test this system, MerCruiser recommends testing with an almost full system at 20 psi. The service manual --- p/n 8M0099748 --- has a good...

Newer Mercruiser Cooling System Questions . . .

The poppet valves serve a different purpose on outboards then on your engine. On outboards they release excess block pressure. On a catalyst engine they are one of the methods used to control catalyst temperature. Yes the crossover serves the the purpose that the intake manifold used to. But...

    Corrosion on drive

ACP = Active Corrosion Protection -- this is an impressed current system. Much like the MerCruiser Mercathode system -- but a little smarter. Yes the 2 S.S. props can cause a problem, MerCruiser had terrible trouble with the Bravo 3 and they had to add some more anodes along with making the...

    Corrosion on drive

There are a number of tests that should be done. There are a few types of corrosion. Given how little time the O.P. says this boat has spent in the water ——- I would be looking at stray current corrosion. Does this boat have ACP installed?

    Corrosion on drive

There is electric power going through the drive, this is what is causing the problem. I’m not sure what you mean by “earthing cables”. Boats have two systems, the grounded and the grounding, sometimes called the battery negative and the bonding system. These two systems are usually connected...

    Corrosion on drive

I should modify this to read. Yes I've seen this more then a few times. It was ALMOST always an issue with the boats wiring. A couple of times it wasn’t the boat, next door neighbor of a customer had an “invisible fence“ installed for their water loving dog and had the wires ran down into the...
