    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

The collision avoidance display comes on when you pull in the garage. At that point she has a 12” display centered on the fridge with distance bars (yellow into red) and audio feedback. All she has to do is pull in until the system starts beeping (yellow bars) and stop….lol

    Let's talk skill...

that's how I was taught....you don't have control drifting. More of less parallel park.... Go in hot at an angle, hit the brakes (reverse) and back/pull the transom to the dock.

Me too...I don't drive it enough Wish I could train Mrs. Dingbat to use it so she doesn't pull in too far and block the beer fridge

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

Have a 2023 CX-9 Signature. Was annoyed with lane assist until I got used to it. Good/Bad.......most, if not all features, are owner programmable. Spent 2 hours configuring everything to my liking once we got it home. Then spent another hour to reconfigure everything to Mrs. Dingbat's...

    Eagle trailer surge brakes

Is it a blocking (NO) or a by-pass (NC) type valve? I could see a scenario where backing up a steep grade with the blocking type solenoid, in the closed position while backing, would/could overload the piston and blow the seals out. I would switch to a by-pass type valve to see if that doesn't...

    Eagle trailer surge brakes

Brake actuators are pretty robust internally. They typically don't leak unless physically damaged. What kind of backing solenoid is installed? Does it work reliably? I have never had a caliper leak on me per say. Had them stick, but not leak. My money is on a leaking brake line

    Recommendation for gps display

Buy the biggest display you can afford or that fits on your boat. Maps wise, I would go with the company whose survey vessels you see the most in your area. Ever seen a CMAP or Navionics survey vessel in your area? Me neither. ;)

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Suzuki’s popularity in the re-power market is pricing. Unless Toyota comes out with an outboard between now and then, I’m going Honda on my next re-power

    Nobody fishing?

On a boat, moving water an hour on either side of sunrise and sunset is the best In the surf zone, I’ll take an outgoing tide in the middle of the night any day of the week.

    Boat opinions

Something to think about….Smaller boats on “open water” are doable, but your windows of opportunity is very limited. Started with a 19’ cuddy. Ran the boat to death, but really had to pick my days. Didn’t take much to get bounced around like cork. Now running a 22’ Walkaround. Twice the...

Know the area pretty well. Have a customer in Kalama. My favorite “carbon fiber fabricator” Lamiglas is across the river in Woodland

    fuel gauge sending unit test

The gauge is responding to changes in resistance. Check that connections are secure and free of corrosion. Usually 50/50 whether its gauge or sender

    fuel gauge sending unit test

Wire colors vary by unit, but set meter to ohms and move the float up and down. Reading should fluctuate high to low while moving the float up and down. The amount of fluctuation varies by the “standard” followed. Found out the other day (working on my own equipment) that some senders operate...

    Trailer guides

The primary difference that I see is that “fixed” side boards are used to guide and center the boat on a pair of bunks. In my case, I have two sets of bunks. The usual square, weight bearing bunks and a set of “contoured”, target bunks (set forward and much lower) that captures and centers the...

Keep blowing my starter solenoid up.

No idea how my calculator came up with the numbers above.....lol but the answer is still the same...... Higher voltage = less current

Keep blowing my starter solenoid up.

    You would instantly blow the filament making R = 0.0 To Solve for current (I): I = V/R I =24/0 I = 0.00 Let's assume you have a five (5) watt bulb rated up to 24 VDC ....... 5 watts @ 12V= 1.3A 5 watts @ 24V = 0.3A Ohm's law deals with the relationships between current, voltage and...

    Nobody fishing?

Grew up with a trout stream in the back yard. Later on, Mom would drive us down and drop us off at the river to fish for cats and carp (chicken livers and dough balls) once a week or so. Got invited to go on saltwatercharter when I was 16 and got hooked. Mated for a couple of summers to learn...
