Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

Of course the lawyers will sue both. But in the case of MY dealer, I had to sign a paper indemnifying them of liability if I don't use straps.

The selling dealer is liable if they don't properly secure the load when it leaves their lot. Once you get it home, though, you're on your own.

    Stingray 208cr trimtabs question

The advantage of tabs in MY boat was to allow me to trim UP in calm water and gain speed without porpoising. When the waves get big, you would normally want to trim IN (and of course slow down) so improve the ride. Yours is just a little boat, so naturally it won't have a smooth ride. If you...

    Free Boat

Back in the day we had a local Pacemaker dealer. They made a fine wooden boat. When fiberglass was becoming the norm they started making some models, and they were under the Alglas nameplate. As I recall they only made them for a few years before going out of business. Like many of the...

    Stingray 208cr trimtabs question

Yes, bouncing up and down as you trim out. The problem is that when you trim out to get the hull to ride the way you want it to, then it porpoises. So, you are almost always running trimmed in with most of the hull still in the water. My Stingray acted just like that, so I added fixed but...

    Stingray 208cr trimtabs question

Plane off for sure, but the Zplane is noted for porpoising. That's why they had a trim tab option.

Looking for a light, all around anchor

Clever idea. But in my neck of the woods, with current and wind, those zip ties wouldn't get me thru a day.

    Eska 7hp Sportfisher

Although most all OBs were on 50:1 by that date, Eskas were still running 24:1.

Looking for a light, all around anchor

I wasn't implying that your setup would be hard to retrieve, but rather that all that chain really didn't reduce the total weight. Unless I put out my stern anchor, at times I swing as well. I solved half of the swing by installing a center bow mounted chock to guide the anchor line. V-Hull...

It depends on the year. Oil ratios changed over time.

    Mud daubber dust in engine

That scenario would indicate that the PO did little maintenance. Thus, you just might be on borrowed time. Usually, when buying a second hand boat, the first thing to do is check the fluids, wheel bearings, etc, etc, before ever splashing it. That would require removing the cowl. Thus, any...

    Steel Caps or Bearing Buddys?

I agree. Two of my current trailers are EZ Lube, but the other 2 are not. So, on those I keep BBs. With all the force it takes to install them, and the fact that I have never lost one after 25+ years, I just wonder why some fall off. BTW, I only have used BB Brand, not the knockoffs.

    Prop Selection Advice

If you want a yami prop and know the part number, a cheaper price on ebay is of no concern. Its the same prop. There are aftermarket props, like Michigan Wheel, which are the same quality, but may be at a lower price. If the price s SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper, its used or damaged.

Can I run my Mercury outboard without gear oil?

Sorry to digress, but its a funny story. Last year in college I met a nice girlie who didn't ever have a car. For graduation her Dad bought her a brand new one. She told me she was going to be verrrry careful with maintenance, and would test everything. Last time I talked to her she was...

Can I run my Mercury outboard without gear oil?

I apologize if my comment was offensive. It's just my upbringing. My Dad did all the oil changes on his cars by himself and he taught me that good oil was important. At age 16, when I got my driver's licence, changing the oil was my responsibility. That same year Grandpa gave me his outboard...

    Steel Caps or Bearing Buddys?

I had 4 trailers. One was a tandem. I did as you did, pull them, grease, new rear seals, etc. every year. Then, I put those expensive buddies on all 10 wheels. Then I got lazy. A squirt every Fall to be sure the spring was in tension. No other maintenance. Got even lazier. Ten years...

Looking for a light, all around anchor

LOLOL. In my personal unbiased opinion, the weight of the anchor is the controlling factor. My 19 footer runs a 9# anchor with a 4' chain, for a total of 13 pounds. It holds everywhere. You are proposing a 4# anchor with 10' of chain, for a total of 14 pounds. Looks like your back will...

    Anchors and Chains.-

My original anchor was a hook from a railroad car. Didn't look pretty but it worked. (Grandpa worked for the railroad). When I grew up I tried many types and ended up swearing by a Danforth type fluke anchor. It worked in EVERY situation. My favorite fishing spot is in the Saint Lawrence...
