Replacing in-line fuel filter on 5.7L MPI

Ah. That’s a very fair point. That was my phone that posted there 😂.

Replacing in-line fuel filter on 5.7L MPI

You could install a pre filter set up. Like a racor water separating filter and bowl with drain. I’ve one on my merc outboard. There is even a water sensor that connects and alarms to the smart craft system. But to be honest, I have an mpi v8 too. I’ve never had an issue with fuel filtration...

    Over prop? How to know?

I think your gauge is wrong…or hope it is. If you keep shifting into gear at an idle speed of 1200 rpm…it won’t end well. I’d imagine it isn’t actually idling that high. I think you’d know all about it, by the noise it might make shifting into gear

VP 5.0 GXi-G spark plug corrosion

Don’t worry about it. Any one of the numerous posts I’ve made…that turn out to be nonsense or silly..is always made by my phone too. Nothing to do with me obviously 😂

    Engine hour gauge

Hi. As said above…that’s the normal way of doing it. Just don’t leave your ignition on by mistake. Haha. I might also add that despite me presuming previously that carb engines can’t show hours from a plug in…I’m sure I was made aware on here ages ago that perhaps that’s not always the case. I...

VP 5.0 GXi-G spark plug corrosion

If it’s going to take a while for the mechanic to look further…I’d be tempted to buy a cheap borescope that connects to your phone…then have a look in there to see if there is corrosion on the valves or cylinder liner. Or if any track or trace of a source path of induced water.

VP 5.0 GXi-G spark plug corrosion

If the diz cap is doing what they are famous for…they can cause a miss fire on one (possibly in your case, causing unburnt fuel to gather carbon or moisture from the fuel itself on that one unit) or any other of a number of cylinders too, depending on how they feel at the time. Google or look up...

VP 5.0 GXi-G spark plug corrosion

Hell you guys are likely right…but wouldn’t it be amazing if it was just the cap and crappy unburnt ethanol (watery) fuel. There’s a hell of a nice chance of it…especially with the symptoms told.

VP 5.0 GXi-G spark plug corrosion

My money on an ignition issue from the cap. Or a bad plug. Scary to mention, but there was a huge amount of these iridium plugs that were counterfeit and went worldwide from china. Caused all sorts of issues. Ngk actually released a guide on how to spot a fake. That’s how bad it was.

    Boggs down

Carbs clean and float check, I’d suggest.

VP 5.0 GXi-G spark plug corrosion

Surely if it was a manifold issue…more than one unit would be affected..usually, you’d think. I think that’s more an ignition issue from the usual source of such a thing…the cap !

1997 Landau 1650 need more speed

Always been tempted to throw my chase into the salt..just to see if I can break the 70mph barrier that has eluded me for all these years on this boat….but alas…I couldn’t bring myself to subject her to the salt. She’s too pampered for that 😂

    Orkney boats

There isn’t much a better or more capable boat, for doing what these things are built for. Not many boats hold their money like an Orkney. Hugely popular here and hugely sought after on the used market.

How certain are we that what is shown there is corrosion? Could it be carbon?

    Flywheel not engaging?? Mercruiser

Hit the starter a dunt with a suitable object. Your bendix isn’t throwing out. Bridge it out if not.

    Hydrofoil for pontoon?

I’m of the opinion that these things shouldn’t be fitted at all. Any issues they are trying to solve, can be overcome with the proper outboard set up in the first place. Add in the risk of snapping the av plate off the motor…and it’s even more of a bad idea to have fitted. My thoughts.

2006 Mercruiser 4.3 no power to Fuel Pump

Yeah. You’re spot on. Thought I’d mention just in case. Fair play.

2006 Mercruiser 4.3 no power to Fuel Pump

Hi. Is she definitely a carb and not an mpi ? If it’s an mpi your mechanic is correct. If it’s a carb, as above. If you aren’t familiar with the mpi…one might assume the throttle body is the carb. Looks like one at a glance.
